Fire Hazard
I don't know how common this is, but I had a scary experience a while ago that might alert others. I opened the companionway at my mooring one day to encounter a strong petroleum-type smell that I couldn't identify right off. Then I recognized it as the lamp alcohol I stored in a cockpit locker. Whe...

Re: Fuel tank issues
You might check the tank venting. The small screens on the tank vent at the stern can get blocked by salt deposits. To see if venting is
an issue, try running with the fuel filler cap off. Good luck - Jean

Bacon Sails has several used and new storm jibs that would fit your boat. Their search engine makes it easy- enter your boat and the

Re: Zinc Chromate Paint and Barnacles 2022 results
I've also tried the Rustoleum zinc spray the last few years because I don't know what else to try. Like everyone else, I found it doesn't work all that well. The wax idea sounds good. For the topsides, I've been using Jescar Power Lock instead of wax. It's a polymer sealant and is supposed to be mor...

Re: CD 36 Perkins 4108 exhaust system
By the looks of the rust on your coupling and the spray pattern on the hull, I would guess that your stuffing box is leaking and spraying salt water all over the compartment. You should repack the stuffing box, in my opinion. GFO makes a good packing that leaks very little or none at all. Also, if i...

Re: Cape Dory 30-36 Chainplates
As a side note, I would say don't reject a boat just because it has mild steel under the deck. My boat, a 33, has been in salt water for all its life and there is no corrosion. It depends on the vigilance of previous owners. The system is actually very good because the upper bronze chainplate fittin...

Re: repowering cd 28
Hi Wayne - have you checked the heat exchanger? They sometimes accumulate zinc anode remnants. A radiator shop can
clean it out if it's plugged.
On another note, I replaced my old engine with a Beta 25 and have been very satisfied.

Re: replacing fuel tank fuel level gauge, CD31
When mine went bad, I replaced with a Tank Tender. It's a bit expensive, but works great. There are no moving parts, nothing
to break. It's been very reliable. I have the two-tank model and ran the other line to the holding tank.

Re: Convert Fynspray Galley Hand Pump to Foot Pump
Ken, I don't know if the antifreeze would damage the pump seals, but your winterization would seem to be okay. In my boat, I don't use antifreeze in the fresh water system. I drain the tanks and keep at the foot pump until no water comes out. I've had the same whale foot pump since 2012 with no issu...

Very nice boat, John - though not my cup of tea. I sent a PM- there's a yard in R.I. that can take them, if they haven't already made
arrangements. - Jean
