Re: typhoon weekender shroud specs

Typhoon Daysailer owner here. The standing rigging measurements for your Ty Weekender can be found in the manual. There's a PDF of the 1981 Manual that has Typhoon rigging specs listed on page 94. You can find the manual link on the CDSOA home page, left side nav bar "where to look", to &q...

Re: New to List, Looking at Cape Dory Typhoon - Have Questio

Sorry I'm late to the game and hope my comments are useful as a Ty Weekender and Ty Daysailer "cuddy" model owner. I'm familiar with the Capi 22 and sailed with a friend quite a few times in the past. You state age and health making it harder to sail. Can you be specific? The Typhoon isn't...

Re: Cockpit drains on a Typhoon

I second Paul's recomendation.
I did the same replacement of hoses on my 1975 Ty Weekender using the tips found in this website. My valves were bronze and great working order so left them alone. Just replaced the aging hose. Now sailing a Ty Daysailer which I love!

Re: Typhoon solar setup for trolling motor

Thanks Ben! I'm very interested in your final design. I have never been able to figure out the solar panel charging numbers. I've had advice that varied widely and never felt I could trust. Plus the solar panel tech is so much better than just few years ago. I also am using a 50lb thrust trolling mo...

Re: Tune a Typhoon

Sorry for late reply its been a busy summer including some sailing! I sail a CD Typhoon Daysailer. The mast steps thru the deck to the floor of the cockpit. I also use the Loos Pro Model PT-1. I have wrestled with the same questions of tension. I've read a lot of articles (including those attached),...

Re: Roller furling for a Typhoon

I have a Shaefer Snapfurl CF-500 that came with my CD Typhoon Daysailer. The previous owner installed it. So can't comment on installation issues. It's has been working perfectly and is on its 12 yr of service. To second some of the previous comments, what a dream to roll up the jib or shorten sail ...

Re: Outboard shaft length for Typhoon Daysailer?

Hello Very good info from both Alan and Steve and I agree with both. I'd like to share my experiences for you to continue to weigh your options. I'm sailing a Typhoon Daysailer Model K which replaced my Typhoon Weekender. I sail on Onondaga Lake in Syracuse NY and moor at a dock in a protected marin...

Re: experience with sail makers

I second SailCare in PA. I sent them my Typhoon sails to have evaluated and was expecting them to tell me i need a new 150 jib. But NOPE. They sent back a proposal to clean and recondition, repair some stitching on both sails, repair the batten pockets on the main and add a new panel and sunshade to...

Re: Chelsea Ships Bell Clock Repair Question

JD-MDR Sorry for the late follow up on the Iver Weibach clock and barometer set. As a longtime clock collector, I hope you passed on the Iver Weilbach set. They are not worth the price. If they showed Many old European and American companies offer junk in comparison to what they made years ago. For ...

Re: Chelsea Ships Bell Clock Repair Question

John That is great news on the clock. I'm so glad it worked out. Finding Keith was like finding the proverbial 4 leaf clover! I don't personally know him but have read many of his research articles and seen pictures of his steam engine work. He is an interesting man with many talents and passions. H...

Re: Chelsea Ships Bell Clock Repair Question

John You did well with finding Keith. He's a very well respected compass man and steam engine guy. Another hobby I have, steam engines and railroad stuff. Which the clock collection is funding! Keith builds gorgeous model live steam locomotives that you ride on. He runs his equipment at the Great No...

Re: Weather boot for Typhoon day sailer

I have a Ty Daysailer and couldn't find a suitable mast boot. So fashioned one out of neoprene material. Think wetsuit material. Found an insulated wine bottle bag made out of it at Target a couple summers ago for $5. Cut it apart and wrapped it around the mast near deck and slid it down thru deck h...

Re: Chelsea Ships Bell Clock Repair Question

John My 2 cents. As a clock collector with 4 Chelseas in my collection, have Chelsea fix it. I can vouch for their work and quality. Their clocks today, well they're just trying to compete in the clock market. I have 3 Ships Bell strikes from early 1900s and US Navy issue 1942 deck clock non strikin...

Re: ....In Search Of....Traditional Rope-work Bow Fender

Bill Get a hold of Barbara Merry at http://www.marlinspikeartist.com she's in Wakefield RI. She has a couple different designs. I bought a couple rope fenders from her a few years back at the Maine Boatbuilders Show. They are still going strong and look great. She does very nice work that's a lost a...
