Looks like a small Danforth would fit right in there.

3. Learn how to gybe your boat. Day and night. Light air and a lot of air. Smoothly. Without drama. That whole list is great advice from John and I am the first to believe he is right about the lethality of an uncontrolled boom. So, one rule I might add to his list is: 10. Don't gybe when you can t...

yup. John got the right link. I would encourage you to read the entire thread before proceeding, and note the reference to Joy at Schaefer and the part numbers.

Re: easy to start small outboard motor

My Yamaha 2.5 has been a very reliable starter, but after over 10 years the lower end is giving me trouble. Weighs about 30lbs and am able to move it from my stern rail mount to the dink by myself. has internal fuel tank so you don't have to haul around another tank. I would recommend it if you are ...

Re: Need help with freshwater system

My pump, a Jabsco 36950-2, on my CD31 gave me similar problems. Though there was no leak, I had to prime the pump by connecting a raised bucket of water to the intake hose of the pump. Eventually I rebuilt the pump, replacing the diaphragm, and now all is well and it no longer requires priming. It w...

Re: Trailers and Boats

I second the Doughdish, H-12 recommended by Jeff. I have launched and hauled my 12 at the public ramp at the end of my street without problem, with only my wife in the truck drivers seat. You won't find a small sail more suited to Buzzard's Bay, the H-12's birthplace in 1914. A true native son. Only...

I am very happy with my Taylor 079k kerosene heater http://www.taylorsheatersandcookers.co.uk/heaters . Cheap plentiful low volatile fuel, safe and a fits beautifully on my salon starboard bulkhead.

Re: Emergency boarding ladder

nice, Jim. Wonder if there is an installation that would allow us guys without the wind vane to deploy from the water and still climb up over the transom. Seems the top rung of the ladder would be at the height of the installed tube ( maybe a few inches below), so you would have to be able to climb ...

Re: Lock Down Books?

I second Bernard Cornwell, the Last Kingdom series, as well as the Sharpe books. For those history buffs looking for a broader perspective on the social evolution of our species, Sapiens, by Yuval Harrari, will knock your socks off!
Stay healthy out there.

Re: 20 months under shrink wrap

I am wondering if I can maintain my safety and still launch my CD31 this season. Danusia sits on the hard in my driveway and it is a 1/4 mile down the road to the launch ramp where my usual transport fellow and his wife help me step the mast with their boom truck and slide her into Quahog Bay here i...

Re: Repowering a CD31

Hi, Dean, My 31 was repowered prior to my purchase, probably about 10 years ago, with a Yanmar 3YM30. While the engine has been extremely reliable, it is significantly larger than the original Universal and had required some minor modification of the engine compartment, though not the bed itself. Sp...

Re: Lazy close reach

Nice, Jim. One of the great advantages of the CD31 is the wide possibilities of sail configuration. I've experienced the same terrific balance in 23-25 kts with a single reefed main and staysail, but always fun to have 3 sails flying :D

Nice cruise planned! Wonder what arrangements have been made for moorings/anchorage at Monhegan? Pretty scarce, from what I've read.
