Re: CD-27 Cushions Free Original Brown Plaid
I store my CD 27 cushions in large vacuum seal storage bags. The kind that you stuff your stuff into and then zip seal and pump out the air with a shop vac. It is amazing how flat the cushions get. This would be a way on saving on overall size but I believe it would still be fairly costly to ship. A...

Re: Spartan Port Screens Part 2
Photo #4 - Since I used 2 pieces of frame with screen sandwiched in between, I clamped the assembly. If you are using one piece of frame you can probably skip the clamping. After the glue was dry, I used a belt sander to smooth the outer edges of the frame and trimmed to fit the port hole opening. T...

Spartan Port Screens Part 1
The Screens for my CD 27D finally disintegrated. This was my solution for keeping bugs out. Photo #1 -I used what was left of one of the factory screens as a template. This was laid out on a sheet of plexi glass but you could use teak plywood or other material. Photo #2 - A diagonal cut was made thr...

radar mounting
Does anyone have photos of their CD with a radar mount? I am considering how/where to mount a raymarine 18 inch dome on a CD 27. If you have CD 24 though 32 footer with a radar dome mounted, I would appreciate a pic of same. Thanks.

Re: Not Sure How I Should Feel About This?
I love going along on another's boat. Make suggestions but remember, if the darn thing crashes or sinks, the captain bears the blame. That said, if some one is the aft half of a donkey and you are not comfortable with their decisions, just say thank you but no the next time your invited along. This ...

Re: Air in Fuel Lines: Should I change fuel lines?
My cd27 had what turned out to be several very small fuel leaks. This manifested in trouble starting and surging. After tightening everything and replacing filters and fuel pump I put in an electric diesel fuel pump - installed in the line coming out of the fuel tank. I left the mechanical pump in a...

Re: bilge ice
No big problem. The bilge is narrower on the bottom. The ice pushes up out of the bilge relieving the side force. The freezing isn't the problem, it is the expansion as the ice starts to melt. To ease your mind, cut a chunk of Styrofoam and wedge it in the bilge. Fit isn't particular as long as it w...

Bow Thruster
Has anyone installed a bow thruster on their Cape Dory Sailboat?
If so, any comments? Worthwhile endeavor or not so much?

Harken roller furler repair
For those who have had the "pleasure?" of replacing the headstay through a Harken roller unit a tip; Instead of trying to thread the new wire through the assembled foils as suggested, try this. Take a suitable length of heavy test braided nylon fishing line, I used 40 ft of 50lb test, tie ...
