Re: ! GM thermostat & engine zinc replacement

The engine zinc should be inspected every year and replaced if necessary. I replace mine every other year since our boat is in salt water. In one season you would be amazed on how fast it disintegrates. I've never left it there more than 2 seasons. The thermostat I remove and soak in some white vine...

Re: CD27--Cabinet Door Beneath Sink?

We have a 1981 CD27, it is actually a small pullout drawer. I imagine you could easily add one too.

You are going to be very pleased...

Bob D. put forward a great effort to get the new board updated. I was privileged to test out the new board. As always, we look forward to your comments and/or suggestions on how we can improve your experience on the board. We will make our best effort to make those changes if necessary and explain w...

A little of topic but relative...

Don't forget to check the water level in a lead plate, wet battery. Even those "maintenance free" models like my Sears Die Hard's sometimes (usually) have a removable fill cover. I just leveled off all my cells with water from our dehumidifier. Use distilled water not tap. It does make a d...

Our 1981 CD27 has the original raw water cooled YSM8 installed. If the motor is "new", uninstalled, and the price is right, sounds like you have a great find! I would research getting parts (minor and major) first before you make the plunge. It is hard if not impossible to get some parts f...

I believe teak, but I replaced it with mahogany. I put on a layer of epoxy and then 8 coats of varnish. I did not screw it down, I just bedded it in caulking compound.

It is more decorative than structural. Though it probably does add some reinforcement to the sole.

Same here. I removed the block; let the core dry out; epoxied the life out of it; and put in a new block properly bedded.

Seems to have held up.

Explain "dented". Depending on where the mast has been dented and how severe, you may be able to sleeve it for a whole lot less than buying a new mast. The dent could be cut out, adding a replacement section with sleeves inserted, and riveted in. The mast carries a compression (downward) l...

Yes, that is the drain valve. I have tried the same too but nothing came out. I gather it is blocked with sediment, I tightened it up and will tackle this at a later time. Tip: You really have to warm up the engine prior to pumping through the antifreeze. Without the thermostat open you will just be...

Correction

Actually the second picture is the water temp probe. If it is disconnected you definitely want to connect it again. The previous owner may have disconnected it due to malfunction. Overheating this motor (YSM8) will surely shorten its life. The oil pressure probe is towards the front of the engine. I...
