At least they parked an Alfa Romeo in front of the boat - could be worse.

All: Regardless of which finish you choose, be sure to follow all instructions regarding ventilation and preventing prolonged inhalation or dermal exposures; request a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) from the manufacturer and be particularly careful with finishes that are isocyanate based. And bef...

Battery Famine Or In This Case Feast

Battery Famine or Feast I used the web board site search function and did not find an answer to my current question, so here goes. My Universal M-25XPB is overcharging my two batteries dropping the fluid level all too quickly. One battery is a 24 series cranking and one a 27 series house battery bot...

CNG works great, same heat as gas at home. The point about supply is true, it is not as easy to get as propane. We use about one cylinder per year and I make coffee every morning I'm aboard and my wife is a fine boat galley cook. We particularly use the oven in the fall and spring for full dinners a...

All the cultural hang-ups, tisk tisking over things not being like they used to be aside (its all true) - I've been watching the America's Cup elimination series races on VS tv channel, the boats are amazing machines, the racing crews best in the world, the starts are hair raising and the European t...

Thanks and here are a couple of observations. First your caution about the shower sump set up is well taken. Second, a holding tank to bilge leak is not impossible but highly unlikely. As you have seen from the numerous posts, smelly bilges are not unusual. Any minor leak or seepage of any fitting, ...

All: I have exactly the same set up on my CD31. I like the idea of re-running the hose from the front of the engine drip tray to the shower sump, I may try that. As for oil leaks, well a new engine cured that problem but with ye ol M25 I kept the engine drip pan liberally swaddled in oil sorbs. That...

Here is one recommendation resulting from stripping all exterior teak last season (right about this time of year in fact). Make sure you use or buy heat gun with a finger trigger. I bought a new one to add to my arsenal last year and because it did not have a trigger, it took the other hand to turn ...

All: This discussion is a good one to raise a point about sailing - simplicity. I read all the trade press about world voyagers and their ability to manage complex systems. I know that when I take on some blue water passage making I will tick up my level of expertise about the really extraordinary s...

BioBar

Use BioBar for diesel storage and every time you fill the tank- inhibits growth of butgs, scum etc.

Asymmetical Spinnaker Hoists and Trim

I have found a number of occasions to fly my asymmetrical spinnaker this season and thought I might prompt a discussion about best handling techniques. There are some older posts on the topic but here is the specific question - I don't use a snuffer or sock to raise and lower, I often set the sail w...

Thanks for the replies. On my Cape Dory the fit is such on the companionway and the cover that caulk needs to fill the spaces between the GRP and the wooden trim - hence exposure to sunlight.

Happy Sailing for the coming long weekend to all:

Caulk Or Bedding Compound That Will Be Exposed to Sun

I used the search function on the Board and did not find a string that hit the mark for this question - so here it is - I want to re-bed the companionway hood (turtle) and around the companionway teak trim. I need a caulk/bedding compound that will stand up to the sun, not yellow etc. Please, does a...
