Asymmetical Spinnaker Hoists and Trim

Post by Bill Sonntag »

I have found a number of occasions to fly my asymmetrical spinnaker this season and thought I might prompt a discussion about best handling techniques.

There are some older posts on the topic but here is the specific question - I don't use a snuffer or sock to raise and lower, I often set the sail without the main being raised. Without the benefit of the blanketing provided by the mainsail, what's the best way (point of sail etc) to set the spinnaker? Down wind, hoisted on a close reach?

Any thoughts?

Happy sailing!

Our own Andy Denmark (CD27 Rhiannon) wrote this. An excellent primer for cruising chutes.
