Blue Sea electrical panel
David, Last winter I installed a Blue Sea model 8684 panel in my CD 36. This model has 16 DC circuits and 6 AC plus the main switch. Most of the prewiring for fuses, etc was done at home in my shop. Because the teak plywood behind the old electrical panels was in poor shape, I made up a new panel an...

CD 36 purchase
Philip and Sharon, I agree with all of the prior comments about deck space on a 36. only a nesting dinghy or a folded inflatable will work. If you're thinking about buying a 36, I'm thinking about placing mine on the market later this year or early next year. It is not yet listed with a broker. If y...

engine mounts
Troy, my engine mounts were not removed from the boat. There was some heavy rust at the aft ends where the base rods were bonded into the hull. These were cleaned and sealed. New flex mounts were installed and the new engine installed. The remaining gaps were sealed with an epoxy paste coating. The ...

rebuild vs replace
Last winter I decided to replace the tired perkins 4-108 in my CD 36 with a Yanmar 3JH4 which replaced the 3JH3 and is used in the Robinhood 36. Partially on Ken's advice and after pricing and considering Volvo, Westerbeke and Universal, I went with Yanmar. The original steel beds were in good enoug...

engine mounts
Troy, after removing my engine, I had two engineers/sailers, one who built his own steel boat, look at my engine bed. They agreed that; 1) the mild steel is not in a hostile environment on the CD 36 if properly coated, and 2) with recoating the existing bed had plenty of strength for a repower.

engine mount
last winter I repowered my CD 36 with a Yanmar 3JH4 and planned to remove the old rusty mounts. when the old 4-108 was removed and the beds examined and cleaned, there was plenty of metal there, so rear brackets were made adapting the Yanamr to the old beds. after a redesign of the new brackets, it ...

alternators
Mike, I have a Hamilton Ferris 125 A alternator which was on the Perkins 4-108. HF adapted it to mount on the Yanmar 3JH4 which I just had installed in my CD 36. It's the largest alternator in that line that needs only one belt. I've been very happy with it. Hope to see you this summer on Lake Ontar...

CD 36 repower
I'm almost finished repowering my CD 36 with a Yanmar 3JH4 which replaced the 3JH3. Yanmar does not specify using a flex coupling in the prop shaft, which the original Perkins was equipped with. Does any one know if Robinhood uses a flex coupling with this engine or it's predecessor in their 36? Hav...
