I have some minor issues like depth sounder and knot meter not working, questions about the head to be checked out, etc. Nothing major just a good knowledgeable person i can trust. Maybe "mechanic" is not a good word.

Rappahannock area mechanic recommendations?

If anyone in the Deltaville/ White Stone / Irvington area knows a good mechanic who will make "house calls" to Urbanna, pls let me know? Thanks.

Interesting. I have a small magnifying glass the PO left in the "stuff drawer". It works well if I'm targeted in what I want to see, but taking in larger sections of the chart was difficult. I felt like i was using a Ouija board. My eyes too have decided they want me to be a trombone playe...

Happy 4th of July!

Captains and Crew, A happy fourth of July to all! We're fortunate to live in a great country, and I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. For our part, we had a fabulous sunset cruise on the Rappahannock River Friday night, spent the night on board, and took a 3 hour sail on Saturday in a steady 10 kno...

Tank thanks

All, thanks for the insight and suggestions. I don't run the engine that much so was hesitant to fill it up only to have all that fuel sit over the winter. But i do agree that filling it to capacity and doing some math is the simplest and best way to create peace of mind.

CD31 diesel tank

From the "no such thing as a stupid question" department.....my diesel tank is in the port side cockpit locker, probly just like every other 31. I'm curious if the gauge on top of the tank is accurate (shows about 5/8 full), because when i "knock" on the side of the tank, it soun...

"sailing in place"

I was wrestling with that first thought of "today is the day" and taking "Ellie" out solo one morning. What I did instead was, with the wind light and the boat still tied to the dock, was "sail in place". I did everything that needed to be done, but never left the dock!...

Lines led aft

I had an O'Day 25 where lines were led aft. When I bought my Cape Dory, the "first thing I was gonna do" was lead the main halyard aft for singlehanding, safety, etc. Well, I haven't done that....the simplicity is nicer, going to the mast properly and safely is a good example for crew and ...

We're running out of superlatives! Beautiful work on a gorgeous lady; congratulations. I am particularly impressed by the Cetol....had heard results were less than good ol' varnish (6 coats deep!), but your results are incredibly deep.

Datamarine depthsounder and knotmeter malfaunction

Instruments (separate) come on, and depthsounder goes thru its startup process, but then reads " - --". Knotmeter comes on, but reads "0.0". So i believe they are getting power, but to have both the transducer and the knotmeter wheel go at the same time seems odd. Thoughts?

OK, so the order will be fuel tank, vacuum gauge, Racor, fuel pump, secondary filter, injector pump, etc. Got it. Thanks Steve.

Excellent, thank you. You both confirmed my under-educated guess (thanks especially for identifying the "original Fram black and orange canister"...that's exactly what it is). The RACOR replacement of the Fram was one of the first things on my list of to-do's, but I think the mechanic didn...

Fuel filters, pumps, and separators M25

Happy Spring to all....looking for some insights on fuel filters / separators and fuel pumps for CD31 with universal m25. I have a large "up and down" cylindrical primary filter / water separator right next to the fuel tank, at least i think that is what it is (seems large for a fuel pump)...

Taxes and fees

In Virginia we have an annual personal property tax. Not sure of the actual legislative infrastructure, but it is a tax levied by the counties, not the state, based on the value of the boat, car, vehicle, etc. Also true that you don't register if you're documented. So my total taxes and fees were/ar...
