1983 CD 30 cutter — Houston

Since I cannot find a buyer for cosmetically damaged 1983 CD30 ($7K), Í´ll be parting her out. I’ll start making a list of parts requested here. If you ever needed a spare, now is the time

Re: Pedastel Woes.

My compass binnacle's 3 of 4 bolts came out with a lot of liquid wrench type spray but the 4th required drilling out. After the compass, I loosened the steering wires on quadrant so the chain could be removed from sprocket. Take wheel off. Remove throttle housing and unhook cables. Drive cam that ho...

Re: Pedastel Woes.

I also rebuilt the cockpit sole and rebuilt the pedestal. I would suggest you call Edson Marine or send them an e-mail. They are exceptionally helpful in identifying the parts you need. The throttle and transmission cables on the Edson pedestal (1983 CD 30) bend up through the pedestal and have a th...

Re: How to know when you are heeling 15 degrees?

CAPSIZE RATIO: Some years ago the technical committee of the Cruising Club of America came up with a simple formula to determine if a boat had blue water capability. The CR compares beam with displacement since excess beam contributes to capsize and heavy displacement reduces capsize vulnerability. ...

Re: Nav app.?

iNavX™ for iPhone/iPad/iPod touch supports the most extensive and updated online chart and map catalog. Great if you have GPS WIFI or 4G iPad. I use companion piece GPSNax on Mac and pick up GPS data through direct cable. GPSNavx is Free.

length vs tonnage

I've been investigating the nesting dinghy option for a while. My issue is that the 7-8' nesting dinghy option often carries a 300 lb. carrying capacity. I occupy 2/3s of the carrying capacity so that limits inviting others onboard. The 11' options seems to have capacity in the 600 lb. range. Port T...

Re: Fiberglass dinghy repair

+1 on West System Manual. I work with West System quite a bit. I prefer it over the cheaper fiberglass resin + hardener mix because counting the drops seems to give me an uneven working times. The West Pumps attached to the hardener and resin works everything and consistent set times. I can plan my ...

Re: MD7A vs. MD7B

MD7A 1976 - 1981 was 13.4 hp at 2600 rpm, 0.77 litres MD7B 1981 - 1983 was 17.5 hp at 3000 rpm, 0.77 litres Volvo must have made changes to the head to get the extra power. Different valves. Larger ports perhaps on the MD7B. The MD7B runs at higher rpms (faster) to generate more power and the gearbo...

Re: MD7A

While I don't have any specific recommendations, I've had injectors and pump cleaned and rebuilt at a diesel truck engine repair shop. The price was 1/2 what marine places were asking. Of course, you have to pull and re-install, but I put this as an option for consideration only.
