Liquidity has a new crew member

Post by Neil Gordon »

As some of you know, we lost Gracie, our almost 12 year old yellow lab, several weeks ago after a short illness. I'm happy to report though that LIQUIDITY has a new crew member, not a replacement for Gracie but because with Gracie gone, we have room on board and in our lives for just one more.

Say hello to Bear! He's purported to be a flat coated retriever / Newfoundland mix... about a year and a half old, 88 lbs... and as I typo, right here sleeping on my foot.

Roxy, at age 13, is still sailing.

Neil,

I understand how you feel. Yesterday we had our 13 year old best buddy put down. Her name was "Soot" and was as black as your Bear is. She was mostly Black Lab and we think had some Dalmation in her breeding.

We feel that some of the sorrow of losing a good friend is compensated by the memories of the years of joy and good times we had together.

It was time and we know that we did the right, humane thing for her.

Good luck with your new crewmate.

Sorry to hear about Soot

OJ,

It's not easy. I suppose that letting them go is the price we pay for having them in the first place.

So about your lab/dalmatian mix... are you trying to tell me you had a black dog with black spots? How does that work, exactly?

Ahoy Neil. Bear looks like a great sea dog. You going to teach him to go on coiled line?

Hi Neil
Adieu to Gracie, welcome aboard to Bear!
I was born in Newfoundland and I have always had a "soft spot" for Newfie dogs.
Here's a photo I saved off the net, years ago:

Something like that... a coiled line or a "grass" doormat. The last I looked, the suggestion was to take some dirt from the back yard from that "special" place and rub the smell onto the proxy. I'm thinking teach him this outside at home in the yard and he'll get the idea, then transfer the idea from there to the driveway, then to the parking lot at the marina, etc., etc. Should only take a few tries each.

While I'm at it, I'll see if I can teach the old dog the new trick, too.

Stay tuned.
