Whenever I have seen a forklift used to lift a sailboat in my marina (including my boat) slings hanging off the forks were used. At no time did I see the actual forks touch a boat. Are you sure thats not the plan?

Another known issue to look at is roof compression from mast/stay tension. This becomes more obvious when the mast is up. Most TYs need a post inside to counteract it. I bought a TY four years ago that sat in a marina for a couple of years untouched. Good sails, cushions and motor were kept indoors ...

As far as I know there are three ways to get water in a TY bilge: 1. leaky seacocks 2. leaky rudder post 3. rain, most likely I am also getting water bellow at times and it is from the rain. My hatch is not in the best of shapes. I eliminated the seacocks and replaced them with triple clamped radiat...

Re: motor

Thank you both! Novotny-- can you kick your motor up out of water while on the Spartan bracket, or does the bracket prevent you from doing that...and so, does the propeller always rest in the water? If so, does it seem to produce any appreciable drag? John W. Yes, I can kick up the motor, its a 5hp...

Welcome, good luck with your Typhoon. 1. I keep my motor locked on the bracket and the removable Spartan bracket locked to the aft cleat. The boat is on a mooring. 2. while I do have a vang I don't have any info handy on it, I would have to check the specs on it 3.The main sheet should run thru doub...

Re: ty mast stepping

I use the main halyard. Tie a figure eight knot at the end. Then run the halyard shackle through the anchor eyelet. Then run the line back to the cockpit around the winch. Then place mast into the tabernacle. Then pull the halyard(shackle end) while slowly raising the mast. You are now using mechan...

I have had boats on a mooring for over 20 years in front of our place on Chautauqua Lake, NY. I have always use two pennants attached to the top and they used to twist on me also. I believe the twisting occurs during calm when there is no load on the lines and the boat meanders around. . I solved th...

Thanks John....
Tartansailor, I mean drag while the trailer is still in the water, the leading edge of the keel is on the bunk and the back end is still somewhat buoyant, I dont mean drag it with the winch on dry land. For that we use "panic stop"--slam the brakes a bit :)

Ty trailer winch question

I finally got a hold of a trailer for my TY, my friend who welds (good to have those) is modifying it for me. I am using Triad Trailer specs posted by Snapfish which were very helpfull. One question remaining is what size winch to use. I read somewhere to go with 1/2 of the weght of the boat which w...

This is more than I can bear...I am placing myself on suicide watch and 24 hr observation...Sea Hunt PLEASE dont look for another boat, sigh. As far as storing a TY, these are very sturdy boats, many have sat for years, through winters, such as mine, with no serious ill effects. I would clean it, co...

[quote="Sea Hunt"]Vcoast: I am a rookie Ty Weekender owner and a true tadpole sailor. I did spend a lot of time looking for a Cape Dory and inspected many (as this board can sadly attest to :( ). And, I MAY be thinking about beginning a new search for a Cape Dory 25D. May King Neptune have...

I have solved this problem by mounting my winch about 4" higher then my bow when the boat is sitting on the trailer. The result is that instead of the boat being just pulled onto the trailer it is actually lifted and pulled towards the winch. The action of lifting the bow up while winching lets...

Hi, I owned one for 12 years. I had the shoal keel/cb model and it was a well build, safe and responsive boat with a large owners assoc. backing it. It doesnt have the classic looks of C. Alberg designs of which I own two now (a Typhoon and a Pearson Electra) but it is a worthy boat for you to consi...
