Re: Oil Change Question - Universal M18
we have the westerbeke 20B-2 which is a similar engine with the same setup for draining the oil. i made up an extension hose from clear vinyl with the appropriate brass fittings. after unhooking the end of the hose from its holder on the front of the engine i add my extension hose(about 16" lon...

i would like to add a permanently attached swim ladder to the transom of our cd 27. most of the stand offs on available ladders are the same length as the mounting pads so that the ladder will not hang vertical on a sloping transom. anyone know of a supplier and product that will work on a non verti...

gary for the bronze portholes you might consider getting some of the butyl tape from maine sail. i used life caulk for my sea hood but found it to be very difficult to work with. it is incredibly sticky. thats a good thing i guess. however, i used a whole roll of paper towels just on the sea hood pr...

sink faucet
the inlet tailpiece on some sink faucets are made to accept two sizes of hose. the bottom inch is smaller diameter and tapered. above this section is a larger diameter straight sided portion. you might have your inlet hose on the smaller section while it needs to go all the way up to the larger diam...

spreader length
our boat is a 1980 hull #182. overall length of the spreaders from the mast is 38 5/8 inches. from the mast to the inside of the upper shroud is 37 7/8 inches. depending on what type of tip is installed this might be the more important number. ours has a slot for the upper to pass through and a smal...

cd 27 holding tank
tank depot sells a 15 gallon tank RH-215 which fits underneath the port settee. it is not an exact fit but does go in the space and would work well with some appropriate padding. i purchased the above tank and then discovered that you can put a stock sized 15 gallon tank behind the head and simplify...

make sure and remove the fuel gauge before doing anything on the inside of the tank as the sending unit is all mechanical. its a good opportunity to clean the cork and gears on the unit. i used a length of chain with a string attached to slosh back and forth in the tank to remove the crud. with repe...

cd 27 and 25D
one of the reasons we chose the cd 27 over other models was because it can be towed without getting wide load permits. the 8'6" beam is the maximum allowable on the interstates and u.s. highways. there is a cd 25D in the slip next to us so i often compare features between the two boats. the 25D...

bilge pump cycling - any ideas?
our new to us cd 27 is set up with a rule 2000 pump and a float switch, both attached to a board which sets in the bilge. when enough water gets in to activate the switch, the pump runs fine but then it continues to cycle on and off after initially emptying the bilge. i believe the water in the hose...

boat history 1980 cd 27 "pelican" hull #182
we did a "tombstone rubbing" on the transom of our boat and found that it was named "chocolate chip" at one time in the past. if anyone remembers this boat we would be interested in any information concerning it's past. we bought the boat from dale dupont in miami fl last fall. c...

tank repair
i forgot to add that if you don't need to make the repair at a fitting location you can simply plug both sides of the repair fitting with an appropriate threaded plug. use the same silicone on the threads.

fixing a leaking water tank
we fixed several leaks in the original water tank in our cd 27 while in florida this winter. both the vent fitting and outlet fitting leaked as well as a crack in the side of the tank. we bought a plastic fitting at ace which threads together and has female threads on both sides. they are used on pl...

trailering a cd 27
i just trailered our new to us cd 27 from miami florida to western montana. your truck and trailer need to be up to the task. look in your owners manual and see what the maximum trailer weight for your tow vehicle is. a diesel in a 3/4 or 1 ton is the best solution. make sure your cooling system and...
