boat history 1980 cd 27 "pelican" hull #182

Post by craig »

we did a "tombstone rubbing" on the transom of our boat and found that it was named "chocolate chip" at one time in the past. if anyone remembers this boat we would be interested in any information concerning it's past. we bought the boat from dale dupont in miami fl last fall.

Pelican was beloved and very well taken care of by his owner, Dale, a great sailor. Pelican almost beat my CD-33 Bandolera racing in Biscayne Bay. I met Pelican and Dale while he was working on his boat in Hurricane Cove, Miami, where I also hauled out mine. If that boat had any issues before belonging to Dale, I am sure he took good care of them. You have a great boat. Enjoy!

I can't help you with the history of your boat, Craig, but I concur, it is interesting to know a bit about what your boat has been up to before she came to be in your care.

I'm lucky to know some of the history of my Montgomery 17: She started out life with a school teacher in San Diego. Then she was purchased by a fellow from Port Angeles, WA, who sailed her from Port Angeles up to Bella Coola, BC and back. From there, she went to Montana, and ever since, I've had her here in Ohio (Lake Erie), with excursions to the Chesapeake, Buzzard's Bay, Maine, and Georgian Bay/North Channel (Lake Huron).
