Re: Winch Maintenance - 1971 Typhoon

I did mine a long time ago, very simple inside, a couple of pawls and springs is all I think.

Re: CD Typhoon Compression Post Question

I did the drilled the hole in the floor method and ran a 1"stainless pole from the cabintop to the keel. My boat didn't have any compression just wanted to strengthen it. I cut out a piece of 3" PVC pipe to fit from the bottom of the sole to the keel and placed it under the hole for the po...

Re: Do you winterize your bilge if you can't get the water o

Last two boats I've had I put in garboard drains in the keel. Don't have to worry about water building up and freezing. The Marina should pull the plug for you when they store it.

Re: My Ty Weekender needs some care - need advice

Nothing looks more than cosmetic damage. A marina will charge you $$- if you feel adventurous do the work yourself, it gives you a connected feeling to the boat and will make you a safer sailer. Youtube is your friend you can find info on how to do most anything. My favorites are Boatworkstoday, onb...

Re: Cd typhoon cabin sole core problem

The companionway wall is usually hollow, no core. I wouldn't think the cabin floor would be much of a structural member but would think you would want it solid for walking on. Is it that bad? Strange I would think that area would be the last to delaminate unless the boat was sunk or filled with wate...

Noank Shipyard on the Mystic river (CT) is where I stop. You can tie off on the far left dock and enjoy some seafood at Costellos. the scallops are to die for... Be aware they are only open Fri, Sat, and Sun for the fall.

Re: Mastgates

Thanks for the pics- I've had this system described to me before but couldn't wrap my mind around it. Is the top of the jackline tied off to the sail or mast. Looks like it would take some extra time if you pull the sails off after every sail.

Re: When to patch vs fill a hole?

Use a countersink on the small holes. More surface area for the epoxy to adhere to and less chance of a stress crack.

Re: Roller furling for a Typhoon

I purchased a CDI Furler, used to install on a 22 ft sailboat. After fiddling with it for awhile I took it off and went back to hank on. I like simplicity and the extra lines, especially the jib sheets which are now up off the deck got in the way of anchoring on such a small foredeck. I always found...

Re: New Typhoon Owner! And, Project List!

I liked a topping lift on my Ty, beats having the cockpit filled with sail especiallly if you have other people aboard. One thing I did that I'm suprised I haven't seen many owners do is add hinges to the cockpit hatches. Having them loose always seemed unsafe to me. I also stiffened them up. https:...

Re: Outboard Decision for a 22-Foot Typhoon Senior

My olde Tohatsu 5HP 2 stroke, now going on year 23, runs quite decently. Starts on 2nd or 3rd pull and idles wonderfully, though it’s a bit of a shaker... It pushes my CD22 quite well. It’s Flintstone technology but I think it will run forever... I have two early 2000's Nissan(same as Tohatsu) 5hp ...
