So much history lost!
I think I've visited this board for probably over 20 years. I was on the board before it switched to this software.

Re: Can't open deckfill.
Dry ice (held with tongs and gloves) would offer more extreme cold than frozen water....
If worse comes to worst, you could remove the whole fitting from the deck so that you can use more extreme temperatures or simply replace it.

Re: PM's Broken?
Someone pm'd me recently and I thought I replied, but my reply is showing up in my "outbox" rather than in the "sent messages" box, causing me to wonder if the message is in limbo or if it was sent and won't move to the sent box until after the recipient reads it. Anyone know? Th...

Re: Diesel Jug Recommendation
Those look nice! Regular caps for transport and one ripper cap for filling.

Re: Diesel Jug Recommendation
I have used this type for about the past 10 yrs, filled and emptied multiple times each year, four in yellow for diesel and at least five in red for gasoline. Thanks Tod. Of the EPA spouts I have seen that one seems the best, most reliable, least frustrating to use. But there does not seem to be a ...

Re: Painting anchor rode markings
....and a little more discussion, from Rod Collins of Compass Marine (see page 2 for the quote): "There is nothing wrong with more scope but just be sure you have the swing room to do it. As you continue on out in rode length the changes in angle become smaller and smaller and this is why 7:1 i...

Re: Painting anchor rode markings
FWIW, from the Rocna knowledge base: "Scope ratios A 3:1 ratio of rode-length to water-depth should be considered minimal ("1" being the vertical distance from the seabed to the bow roller, not the waterline, at high tide). Generally speaking about 5:1 is appropriate. Typically you sh...

Re: Painting anchor rode markings
Realistically, how often do you anchor with less than all of the chain out? The boat has roughly 4'-6" from the anchor roller to the water, so in just 10' of water, that is a rise of 14'-6". With all 100' of chain out, you would have a scope of 100/14.5 = 6.9:1. 7:1 is a common recommended...

Re: Experience with pre-spliced anchor chain/rode?
I'm sure they are perfectly fine, but I prefer mine done differently: Instead of a thimble and shackle between the nylon and the chain, I simply back-splice the nylon directly to the last link of chain. It is has been tested (edit: http://www.ussailing.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/1994_Rope_to_Cha...

Re: Pram Hood Design Improvements
It is held with nylon straps, so it can fold forward, but not without a few moments to unhook them. The proportions of the companionway are such that that isn't really an issue for coming and going. I suppose the straps could be replaced with elastic bands. I haven't fallen in love with the hood tho...

Re: Pram Hood Design Improvements
This one has two removable (snaps) triangular side pieces and the whole thing is mounted on a frame that is screwed to the strips of teak that form the groove for the sliding companionway hatch. I wasn't real keen about that method of mounting it, but it is what it is.

The aft bow is stainless tube, mostly hidden by the canvas but the fwd one, visible underneath, was laminated wood.
