Re: 25D seacock grease
G,Day Fellas, My apologises for not contributing to discussions. I have been a little bit otherwise engaged for the last couple of years, but now all good. So, I thought I would do a post and say hello to all you regulars, especially the CD25Ders. I can say I just slipped Breezy and finally after mu...

Re: Yanmar YSM8 exhaust on start up
Some 5 or 6 years ago, I did have a possibly similar discharge of filthy black stuff. Yes, I was worried. Perhaps this may help? I was responsible for my lack of TLC and non use. Reasons many, excuses none. Basically over the previous 6 months or more I failed to use Breezy, plus my zinc anode had b...

Re: CD25D engine compartment floor/bilge question
Hi Petersen, Stuffing box seawater collecting under Yanmar 1GM is the norm for me. I like to keep my bilge as dry as possible, so I can see if there is a change in Breezy. Also, I try and keep lanolin sprayed onto my motor to minimise rust. With motor running, I get a drip about every 6 seconds, whi...

Re: Rewiring Oops!
Hi Tim, Breezy was professionally rewired 2 years ago, for lots of good reasons, mainly age related, and on advice from knowledgeable boaties, so I do now sleep reasonably (boatwise) comfortably. I now have 100 amp fuses for each of start and house battery, which are both the same battery and age. B...

Re: CD 25D engine replacement and shaft alignment
Mike, I can only comment for when you are about to instal, but I will add my knowledge now for the future, as the bit about engine handling may help you now. I only observed (I did help minimally) Bruce the mechanic to re-install Yanmar 1GM in Breezy my CD25D. Sorry, I did not observe the removal in...

Reunion Island Rum
I vote for Reunion Island rum with a hint of Indian ocean, straight from bottle to small glass. Now I am an expert (drip under pressure) as I am sure 40 odd years ago I tasted Bundaberg rum and did not like it at all. Made in tropical Queensland with a hint of Pacific ocean. I liked Reunion Island r...

Re: Cetol finish
G'day All, Hope you are all keeping warm and safe. USA cold front has been on our news every night. After 2 years in our sun (read Florida type) in NSW, I was not able to purchase "Cetol Marine Natural" which was a concern. I had previously stripped back nearly all exterior teak, and finis...

Re: Cape Dory 25D seacocks
G'day Robert. You have a very difficult job lined up, but everyone's advice is good fun. No motor makes it easy to work on seacocks. My personal experience, which may or may not help, is that I followed Maine Sails excellent instructions in full as I and a mate removed all seacocks as most were eith...

Changing Impellor - Buildup of White Calcium Type stuff
Do I have a problem somewhere in my 1GM Yanmar? Help would be appreciated. When I changed the raw water pump "impellor" this morning, after 2 years (yes, I should have after 12 months), water pump had a solid buildup of hard white calcium type stuff solidified inside the impellor casing. T...

Shark sighted at 3.53 on your CD25 video
It sure does look like a shark to me. Both great videos. I must go sailing. I did hit the pause button at 3.53 to 3.58 seconds in to your CD25 video. Bottom left hand corner, in about 2 foot or so of water I am guessing. Looks like a shark, has the overlarge shape of a shark. But is this a shark, a ...

Re: Extra ballast on CD25-D?
Dick, I believe you are correct.
"Breezy" did not have any extra weight when I bought her from Mike Hunter after he had sailed over from San Diego.
Mike did have a large fish hook on board, so I guess fresh fish kept the boat weight down also.

Re: Lake winnipesaukee members
Hi Rod,
My first mate Jenell and I took the MV Washington for a look see of the Lake back in 2011. Absolutely stunning, but no CD's sighted.
PS. Hopefully they were hiding.
All the best in your search.
Noel

Re: Shaft packing size 25d
Hi Bill, I guess we are all soon to be past "it", if not already. What I appreciate is that you have helped us all. Yes, I did read the manual per your quote, but, I was advised to go modern and use Teflon, as the manual was written long ago. An excellent professional engine man did the jo...

John M's Method listed earlier works a Treat
John M's Method listed earlier works a Treat. I needed to remove all my seacocks, and a sailing mate came up with John M's method which worked quite well. You do need the pipe extension for strong leverage. We did not preheat beforehand, just applied pressure, and I seem to remember a sharp tap to b...

Sealing around bottom of 3" teak in Port Locker
Hi Robert, Yes, IMHO you are on the correct path. I also have water seepage in my port locker, below the 3 inches of teak. If I open locker cover, and feel under the teak, along the top underside of the locker, I have a wetness. I am also concerned that rainwater lays in the rear of port locker cove...
