Do I have a problem somewhere in my 1GM Yanmar? Help would be appreciated.
When I changed the raw water pump "impellor" this morning, after 2 years (yes, I should have after 12 months), water pump had a solid buildup of hard white calcium type stuff solidified inside the impellor casing. There was not much room left for the impellor to spin.
I have scraped it out with various screw drivers and emery paper, and installed new impellor per yanmar instructions. No leaks, and exhaust water is pumped out per normal. All good.
My worry is that is this A SIGN OF A BIGGER PROBLEM SOMEWHERE?
This is only the 2nd time I have replaced the impellor, and it definitely did not have a calcium type buildup last time.
I have searched the Board unsuccessfully for this topic, so the Boards knowledgeable help would be appreciated.

Re: Changing Impellor - Buildup of White Calcium Type stuff
Hi Noel,
This calcium-like buildup does indeed sound serious ... could it be related to the waters of Lake McQuarrie? Is it a fresh-water lake or a salty one?
I would suggest you remove your raw-water hose from the intake seacock and see if there's a buildup there as well. You might also take out your thermostat and see if you can see buildup in the engine block. If you find some, you might want to flush your engine out with a product like RidLime, or possibly vinegar.
These suggestions are not based on experience. It was once suggested that use RidLime at haul-out every other season, but I haven't done so.
