I have owned her for the last twelve years, and while she was in extremely good condition when I bought her, she is much more...

Great suggestion about back flushing the vent after a pump-out.

Is your vent the OEM item, or did you replace?
If replacement, whose part (manufacturer) did you use?

Thanks!

CD30 Holding Tank Vent

I'm wanting to replace my holding tank vent with one of the lovely spartan items. They make two kinds, one for a straight hose connection, one with a 90 degree adapter for the hose approaching the vent at right angles.

Anyone know which one works on a CD30?

CD28 - Really?

So many of you have probably seen the article in the current Good Old Boat magazine about Bruce Bingham and his "Cape Dory 28". Specifically, about all the DIY "improvements" he has made to the galley. Now then, I have a CD30, not a 28, and mine's a 1981, not a 1974 (Bingham is q...

Whisker Pole

You didn't tell us whether it is a twist-lock pole or a line-control pole.......? If it is twist-lock, I would suspect the locking mechanism, which I would assume means dis-assembling the pole in order to clean. I have a line-control model, and have never had issues with it extending. I would be ver...

Holding Tank Vent

I haven't had any odor issue, but the last time I had the holding tank pumped out, I heard a hissing noise which turned out to be coming from the head itself. It appears that the vent line is clogged and so the vacuum created by evacuating the holding tank was actually drawing air through the head. ...

Teak?

The storm boards that came with my CD30 are oak, not teak. Does anyone know what actually came with the boats originally?

I have a three-pocket pouch made from an old towel, the boards live on the shelf behind the settee when not in use.

Hatch Re-finishing

I removed both hatches (as well as the traveler bridge) several years ago and had them powder coated. It was way way less money than what you're talking about for new hatches. I'm thinking like $400 or so including the bridge. Powder coating is great, no loss of gloss after six or seven years. There...

Staysail Traveler

Not to contradict anyone, but this is my experience messing with the staysail boom and traveler........ primarily on the Left coast in heavy air.......... In lighter air, as David suggested, there isn't much need to adjust the traveler from amidships. You have two ways to control the shape of the st...

Glue and Screws

I'm not a boat builder, but I can tell you that in terms of building construction, the point of using both glue and mechanical fasteners is that the glue will keep the floor from squeaking, and the fasteners will eliminate the need for clamping.

Now I'm Confused

Having read Maine Sail's well illustrated description of the installation of the Victron monitor, I went to their website and viewed the installation diagram for their BMV-602s. Victron's diagram shows the ground wire for the SECOND battery bank connected to the LOAD side of the shunt. What am I mis...

Re-Powering

I'm surprised at the lack of discussion on the issue of maintenance access when discussing the various re-power (engine) options...? In my 30C, I consider the front of the engine all but inaccessible for any kind of routine (read annual) maintenance. For those of us living with v-drives, who has the...

Jammed

Leonard, You didn't say specifically what pole you have, but I'm guessing its one of the Forespar line control poles? You are correct that Forespar states that you should not use lubricants, because they just encourage the accumulation of salt deposits. You also didn't say exactly what is jammed. I ...
