Re: Typhoon Weekender Correct for me?
If you have a roller furling jib - you do want one - there is no need to go forward except to pick up/cast off mooring lines. Unless there is no wind at all there is no need to use a motor when doing either of these exercises as the boat is so easy to sail, so forgiving of your errors and so without...

Re: Typhoon Tiller Trouble
I'd thought of that but wondered about a future problem if it needed to be removed. (You can tell I know very little about such matters.)

Re: Typhoon Tiller Trouble
The bolt at the base of our tiller loosens up periodically and takes the tiniest of turns to tight it up. It's amazing how much slop/play there can be from the slightest loosening of that bolt.

Re: trolling motor for a typhoon?
That sounds like an excellent solution, Dick. Our currents often run at 2 knots, so that is something to consider in such areas. Sometimes, like weekend afternoons, we also have to factor in wakes from powerboats. It's often a task to make any headway.

Re: trolling motor for a typhoon?
I have no idea. Maybe power and ease of setup and use? I needed a motor I could cope with in order to get home when the wind dies. Several people suggested this and I just don't know enough to research the whole issue. I don't see me carrying a heavy battery, figuring out where to put it, connecting...

Re: trolling motor for a typhoon?
We have just bought the Torqeedo 1003L and have used it twice. We are impressed - everything about it is easy and sensible. We got the long shaft because another Ty sailor in the harbor had gotten the short shaft and had to exchange it for the long shaft. It is light, easy to manage, quiet. It is in...

Re: OB motor for TY questions
Yes, we are in Stonington. We don't go around Fishers or to Block....just stay in Fishers Island Sound. (I can think of lotsa things I'd rather do than sail a Typhoon through the Race.) Several people have suggested the Honda 2 hp. I'm also looking at electric - though the price makes me gulp. Chris...

OB motor for TY questions
Is any Ty owner using a Torqeedo 2 hp outboard? Is that enough power? We only ever use power when there is no wind and we need to get back home, and in the past 5 years have probably used our outboard a total of 3 hours. However, if we'd been able to start it, we'd have put a bit more time on it. :(...

trolling motor for a typhoon?
We have a TY weekender. We've only ever used our outboard when there is so little wind we can't get home. But the trusty, old motor is getting too hard for me to start and I'm thinking of replacing it with an electric trolling motor. What information and advice can any of you good folks give me?

Re: I bought a Typhoon and found it has the wrong mast :^(
Thank you, OJ….much appreciated. We are both in the category of not-so-young, so I think Echo is safe from being overstressed. And we keep our standing rigging only tight enough to keep the mast upright.

Re: I bought a Typhoon and found it has the wrong mast :^(
90 days, folks, before April and boat work time in New England. My usual plan is to be floating within 100 days. Work can start as soon as it's warm enough to take the cover off and work without gloves... mid-March or so. That's in the good years, and we can hope. We were sailing by mid April last ...
