bad experience with O'Sea glass

Hope to save someone else a bunch of money and frustration. I'm replacing the dodger on Mahalo. I made one about 10 years ago and used Strataglass. To me, it seemed like it lost clarity quickly, especially since only used seasonally. Read about "O'Sea" brand glass, not any cheaper than Str...

Strataglass versus O'Sea

It's that time, time to make a new dodger. I swore I would never make another one but I guess I'll give it a shot. There seems to be a competitor for Strataglass - O'Sea. It's slightly cheaper but my intrigue in it is that I wasn't all that impressed with Strataglass. But, we did not baby it, but it...

Ritual to Christen new engine?

So, there are rituals for christening a new boat.....are there any fun rituals we should to do re-christen it with it's new engine?

Re: Tides Marine Sail Track

Ours has been on the boat for probably 10 years now, mast stored outside in New England every winter. No problems - except for once when the boatyard stored it 'track down' all winter and left little indents in it where it was against the mast rack supports. It got a little crushed there but seemed ...

Re: Cape Dory 36 "Parfait" project boat or salvage?

I just wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss and the experience you had. I am glad you are okay, that is most important. It does sound like someone could restore her, and I'm glad to hear that you are trying to make that happen.

Re: Cathy Monaghan

Received from Bruce: Here is a link to a short (2 min) video that I shot at our boatyard earlier this week. Our boat is ok as it was on an upper lot, above the storm surge. Anyone who wants to post a link to the video on the Cape Dory Message Board (I don't have access) or to share with other CD/boa...

Re: Automated fog horn

I suspect that wherever you mount a horn you won't hear other boats when you're blasting your fog signal. One drawback of automated signals is if they're in time sych with others out there, none will hear the others. Neil, this honestly has never been a problem. See Mainesail's other thread about t...

Invaluable

MaineSail, your contributions to this board are invaluable.

We are going to add the fuses to Mahalo before next sailing season.

Thanks!

I don't know if this is "proper" but seems to work for us. First, our lines come from the top of the ball, not underneath. We have long pendants, and when there's no wind we would float to the ball and as it passed by the ball, one line would go around one side, one the other, and we'd end...

Re: Mattapoisett

Wow, that is a really open mooring field, impressive so few ended on the beach with that lively fetch. Great pics and video, what were the wind speeds there? It's got a lively fetch on a Good day, never mind a tropical storm! Looks like it was blowing steady 40s for a while, gusting over 60, see he...

Mattapoisett pics/video

Cathy, glad to hear all okay! We hauled Mahalo, better safe than sorry. Decided to just keep her out and start on projects with the hope of launching early next year. We'll see. Anyways, here are some pictures/video from our prior harbor, Mattapoisett. Note the one sailboat that left their headsail ...
