Re: CD 28 Gooseneck Replacement
I’ve had luck finding misc. parts from “Sailboat Parts” (sailboatparts.com). Send them a picture of the part and a description of what you’re looking for. They seemed to have salvaged lots of sailboats and must have some (organized) Mad Max sort of boat graveyard. They’re easy to work with too and p...

Snap-Ring Pliers, Sherwood and Oberdorfer Pumps
Have had the Sherwood pump on my Universal M-18 and it was showing some wear so decided to replace it with an Oberdorfer. Found that the Oberdorfer impeller requires a snap ring where the Sherwood could operate without it. Searched for a set of snap-ring pliers as the snap-ring holes are minuscule (...

Re: CD 25 windows
Hi, The CD25 looks to have fixed portlights/windows. On a previous boat(Tarten 30) I replaced the fixed windows with 3/8” thick plexiglas. Cannot remember the source (it was many years ago) but I do have material left over from the project ( 2 sheets, (1) 29” x 50” x 3/8” and (1) 29” x 26” x 3/8”). ...

Re: Cape Dory '28 - forestay chainplate
Hi,
Looks like a backing plate? Partially glassed into the bow? Perhaps G10 could be used? Easier to fabricate.
Thanks

Re: CD 30C cracked galley counter replacement
Hi Tod, Sounds like a good plan. When you take out the old counter would it be possible to get a piece of that from you? I have a 85 CD30 and need to fill in a hole near the sink and would like to match as close as possible the material. Would be glad to paypal you the shipping cost (simple USPS sma...

Re: Depth Sounder Transducer Removal
Hi Steve, I removed a Datamarine depth sounder from my CD30 a few years ago. Cannot recall the specifics of it, but did opt to not use the same hole and offset mounting piece. Opted instead to make a simple internal holder (pvc pipe, 4200, cap on top with gasket, filled the unit with some anti freez...

Re: replacing fuel tank fuel level gauge, CD31
I believe the fuel gauges are all mechanical, it might just need to be cleaned. I added an access port on my 1985 CD30 tank a few years ago and in the process pulled the gauge, cleaned up the gook, replaced it, very straight forward.
Thx

Re: 1980 Cape Dory 30C Mainsheet Traveler Car
Was looking at Ronstan parts for their Series 19 I Track. This is the same size (19mm (3/4”)) as the Nicro Fico 1159 track on my 1985 CD30 and I used part number RC61985 on the CD30 track in my modified traveller setup. They also listed part RC61983, which I believe is what you’re looking for. It is...

Re: 1980 Cape Dory 30C Mainsheet Traveler Car
Check out the “Looking for…” post just a few previous to this one. I’m in communique with the fellow who posted that as I have 2 of the stops you’re both looking for. Am not certain yet if I want to give them up. I did modify my 1985 30B (same traveller), details are in the “Looking for…” post. Rons...

Re: Looking for:
I did keep the original track. The approach was based on another CD30 with a similar configuration. Following are images, info from Ronstan (I sent them a picture of the other CD30 traveler) with part numbers and parts purchase info. I opted to keep the existing Nicro Fico traveler to see how it wor...

Re: Looking for:
Might also try Ronstan, their series 19 has components which fit the CD30 travelers. I used them to build a traveller system for my 30.
Thanks

Re: Old Growth Teak
I would recommend buying a copy of “Born to Build.. Cape Dory”. Besides being a great 1st hand read on the history of Cape Dory, it includes lots of detail on their production materials and processes. Included are names of key staff in the different departments one of whom must know where their teak...
