Don't be too quick to judge

We have very little info at this point. I, for one, would love to see a plot of the ship's course up to, and including, the point of impact and then the course ran to shore. This would give us far more information than rampant speculation.

I always thought that "Mary Ellen Carter" was one of his best.

count me OJ

I bought my Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender new in 1980 and only sold it two years ago. I currently own a CD25. So, here's one original owner.

Not safe

When I purchased my Typhoon Weekender new from Cape Dory in 1980 I inquired about that lifting eye in the bilge. They told me that the eye was there to maneuver and lower the keel weight into the hull and was not stressed, nor meant, to carry the full weight of the ship. Just a word of caution.

Lubrication

I lubricate the swivels on my mooring once a month with water proof grease. It not only allows the swivel to move freely but it retards the %$#^## corrosion from salt water.

replacement

I replace my pendant every year here in Florida. I use 5/8" line and run it through 3/4" hose. To date, I have yet to have either pendant chaff through even during tropical storms with winds gusting 70mph+. I figure, "if it ain't broke, I ain't gonna fix it"!

swivel

I have a swivel above and below the ball with two pendants. We get some interesting summer squalls here in Florida and having the boat go walk-about without me would spoil the week.

shape

The cut of a loose footed sail is different from a sail designed to have a captive(slug) footed sail.

Boom?

Did either of you find that going to a full batten main places extraordinary stress on the boom which was designed to use a captive footed main?

The metal ladder for the companionway is puzzling, but it appears as if the hatch is offset to the starboard side which would seem to indicate a 30'
