I'm looking at an 1986 Cape Dory Hull #347. Trying to figure out the hull design (length, rig...). Any ideas?

Thanks

28 or 30?

Post by RIKanaka »

Based on the total numbers of each model built and the years of production, it would likely be either a 28 or 30. A tape measure would help you to distinguish between the two.

Maybe someone knowledgeable can tell a 28 from 30?

The metal ladder for the companionway is puzzling, but it appears as if the hatch is offset to the starboard side which would seem to indicate a 30'

28 Question

Post by barfwinkle »

doesn't the 28's companionway ladder step on to the top of the engine compartment and then two steps built into the "panel" covering the forward end of the engine?

It's a 30. I also saw it on CL. It's too long for a 28, as the sink is below the stairs in the 28

It looks just like Raven.

My boat is a 1984 model and is hull number 309 so it all fits. I have the same ladder and even the upholstery is the identical plaid. It probably has the Universal engine as well, which is a good thing.

It could be a really nice boat, Steve.

My guess is it is a 30 "A "Version

We also have the metal ladder in our 30. And I agree the 28 that I was familiar with had the steps built onto the engine cover.

I agree that it is pobably a 30, but I question that it is a 1986 model. My 30 is a 1985 model and documented as such. Hull number is 354.

That's definitely a 30.
