Troy,
The schedule is a little tight between now and the first of the year but the boat is in the water and ready to go. Give me a call at 850 994 5944 and we can set something up. Pensacola Bay is a great place to sail and any reason at all to get out there is a good one.

Leo, Judging from the response so far it seems very likely to me that we will be able to form a panhandle fleet. I am working on procuring a meeting place, and I would hope that we can plan an organizational meeting in late January or early February. If anyone has any questions, ideas, or suggestion...

Check your flaregun

My son is a Coast Guard officer who teaches vessel inspection procedures. When he was aboard my boat he took out my distress kit, opened the breech on my Olin flaregun, cocked and fired the gun with his finger against the firing pin hole. The pin did not clear the surface. I have not tried it with a...

As someone who was aboard for the last few years of Intrepids' active service I think that the 60 million that is needed to refurbish her will be money well spent in educating those 700,000 annual visitors in the role that she played in allowing us to continue to sail freely. It is also worth noting...

Bly and Tracuman, My trailer has three pads on each side, they are 86" apart, the forward pads are 24" from centerline and 38" high, the center pads are 32" from centerline and 40" high, the aft pads are 12" from centerline and 53" high. The aft pads sit just barel...

My 25D is on a trailer in the shed that I built for it while doing hurricane repairs. Let me know what measurements you need and I will get them for you.

Eliot, I would not preclude buying a 25D for lack of a self tending jib. I have been sailing hull # 5 since we purchased it new in 1981 and have no trouble at all coming about singlehanded and without exertion. I throw off the active sheet as I come through the wind and immediately oversheet on the ...

Ron, Just a first guess but it seems to me that you are correct in not needing to adjust headstay tension if it worked well with the 130. Did you adjust your sheeting angle forward for the smaller sail? I would think that overcorrecting for leech flutter with too much leechline tension might also co...

Jim, I reef pretty much the same way as Jim L. stated and have had no problems. I like to totally spill the main while securing the tack and then the clew, I then sheet the main to bring the sail more inboard while putting in the rest of the reef points. I also try to reef on the starboard tack when...

Jack, I also have a CD30B, hull # 359 (1985 model) that I purchased in January. The surveyors estimate of fair market value was $43,000, and although the boat was sound it needed a fair number of big ticket replacement items (roller reefing on jib and staysail, electronics, running rigging, fresh wa...

Kent,

In March I did the opposite trip, bought my CD30 in Houston and brought it home to Pensacola. I have also done the Pensacola to Carabelle run several times. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Kent, I purchased a 1985 CD 30 in fairly good condition in Kemah for 33K in January of this year, so 39,900 does seem a little high to me. Concur with all that recommend a full survey to include a pullout. If you don't have a surveyor yet I most highly recommend Lou Stahlberg (LHS Marine in League C...

Tim, I built a shed for my 25D. The joists are 12' 6" above the ground. My keel sits 20" above the ground. This gives me 35" of clearance above the companionway, and crouching headroom to go forward along the deck. You will need considerably more height if you don't unstep the mast. S...

The answer is yes, they were called "14 oz. Swedish Tankards", and were sold under the Cape Dory Sailmates line by Spartan. They sold for $5.25 each in 1981. I have a set of four as well as a set of Cape Dory coffee mugs. They are not for sale at the moment, but I will watch the bidding an...
