I got a repair parts for our ZF-10 from MER Equipment (http://www.merequipment.com.) They have parts for the Hurth 50 as well. Very nice to work with. I originally ordered the wrong parts and they corrected the order and sent parts immediately. I received the new parts in Green Turtle Cay, Abacos, B...

When we replaced the hose on our CD 33, we found that the hose was connected to the stern tube with hydraulic style clamps. We had them installed at a shop that makes custom hydraulic hoses. The clamps were buried in the glass, and not visible until we removed the stern tube / hose assembly.

Steve, You can still anchor in the harbor, but there is not much room. We have anchored just east of the mooring field near buoy "13". Last summer there was room for 10-12 boats yet. You will lay to the current, which can be significant. It's a long dingy ride to the public dock, but they ...

Hi Russell - We met you on your way south, in White Sound of Green Turtle Cay in the Abacos. Have been following your adventures (via this board) over the past 3.5 years as you sailed through the islands. Our boat is now in FL, but we will be heading north in July. Hope to be in Maine around August-...

What a clever idea for this repair. We recently had to repair the stbd-aft bow pulpit flange connection. Unfortunately, the running light power cable runs through this connection, so we could not use your method. We removed the bow pulpit and turned it over to the local boatyard welder. After commen...

We used Steve Dake on two surveys, one a Pierson Ariel, and the other an Alberg 30. He knows these boats and gave us a very thorough survey. Highly Recommended.

In answer to Ron's question regarding the messages heading off the the right horizon, it is because of the long link in the second message. with no spaces, the board can not break the line for easy reading. Also happens when large format photos are embedded in the post. Living aboard a '33', we ofte...

Thermostat and engine temperature sensor

We recently had to replace the thermostat housing and flange that is mounted to the head on the universal 5424. Replaced the thermostat at the same time, and then monitored the engine temp. After noting that the engine temperature did not achieve the thermostat rating, I noticed that the temperature...

Russell I believe we have the same setup on our CD33. We recently had to change the hose between the stern tube and the stuffing box. I found that the clamps used be CD can be found and clamped by a hydraulic parts supplier. The clamps are called "preformed clamps." The layout on the CD33 ...

I found the following while browsing recently: EnGenius EUB-362 Wireless USB adaptor. Seems more reasonably priced ($50-60)then the WaveRV I mentioned above. Does anyone have any experience with this?

transducer mounting

Our former boat was an Alberg 30 which had the depth transducer mounted in the stbd locker, inside the hull. the transducer was mounted in a 4 to 5 inch PVC tube, wchich was filled with water. The water conducts the sound waves to and through the solid hull. Seemed like a clean way to go. We lived i...

ICW WiFi

We have travelled the icw for the last two seasons and have found a fair amount of WiFi access. We have had limited success with the wireless card on our laptop, however. Often detect multiple, un-secure networks, but can not connect. I just heard about a new wireless card/antenna called the 'WaveRV...

I installed the defender dual drain on the galley sink of our CD 33, and it went very well. Had to cut the old system off with a hacksaw as twenty years had frozen it solid.

Inner forestay for CD 33

Does anyone have any information or suggestions for adding an inner forestay to a 1982 CD 33 sloop rig?

Also, any recommendations for wind vane steering on the CD 33? We saw a Hydrovane system on a similar boat, and the owner was very satisfied.
