pulpit repairs

thought i would share a repair i did recently that might help others. i have had problems for some time with my bow pulpit as the welds broke at the bases and allowed the pulpit to come loose.

i know some have spoken about replacing pulpits, perhaps for this very reason. i also know new pulpits are very expensive.

here"s what i did at two base plates and it worked great.

i drilled 1/2" holes down thru the deck into the anchor chain locker right thru the center of the base plate, then pushed up thru the holes 1/2" threaded rod about 13" into the hollow pulpit rail applying marine tex grey epoxy from the topside as a friend pushed the rod from below. after the epoxy set up overnite, i went into the chain locker and tightened lockwashers and nuts on the rods from below which pulled the pulpit down tight.

this worked very well and saved alot of "boat units"

What a clever idea for this repair. We recently had to repair the stbd-aft bow pulpit flange connection. Unfortunately, the running light power cable runs through this connection, so we could not use your method. We removed the bow pulpit and turned it over to the local boatyard welder. After commenting on the fact that the bottom side welds never hold, he did a fine job of welding a new fillet on the top of the flange. Pulpit is re-installed, very secure, and looks fine even though the weld is now visible on the top of the flange.
