Re: NJ Coast Report
The eye of hurricane Sandy made landfall at Cape May Courthouse....just slightly north of Cape May. Therefore, everything north of landfall suffered onshore winds. We were very lucky at Cape Henlopen in Delaware because as the storm approached NJ, our strongest winds were from the north and then it ...

Re: Cathy Monaghan
I got word that the Raritan Yacht Club and Lockwood's Marina suffered extensive damage. Keeping my fingers crossed that they did OK. I am located in Lewes Delaware...the eye of the hurricane passed very close to us...about 14 miles north so we were likely in the eyewall. My CD 28 rode the storm out ...

Swim ladder for sale
Some time ago I removed the transom mounted stainless steel swim ladder from my CD 28 because I installed an Aries windvane. It is a very sturdy ladder in good condition ... I can email pictures to anyone who is interested. The price is $150.

Re: swim ladder modification
I removed the swim ladder from my CD 28 and replaced it with an Aries wind vane. This involved drilling through the transom to attach the mounts for the wind vane brackets. While I did not measure the thickness, I would say that it is less than a half inch. The windvane mounts each have substantial ...

Re: low oil light
Kevin is right about just keeping the rpm up...you can probably get a few good years out of the engine before it demands attention. One of the symptoms of worn main bearings is a low vibration....kinda like the lowest note on a pipe organ...something you can feel rather than hear....but with a diese...

Re: low oil light
I rebuilt the MD2B on my CD 28...it was a big job and very expensive...I did the work myself since I have had experience in rebuilding engines...(mostly old air cooled VW engines). The Volvo was not terribly different...except that it was a diesel...and raw water cooled...and alot bigger...and no el...

Re: low oil light
It sounds like worn bearings. When bearing surfaces are worn and the oil is warm, the oil pump will not quite maintain enough oil pressure. The light will go on....as you rev up, the light will flicker and at higher rpm, the light will go out as oil pressure is increased.

Re: correct prop for CD 28
I used this prop for about 8 years in my CD 28 and it worked great...the only reason I removed it was that I repowered and the Beta Marine engine required a RH prop. There was plenty of clearance.

Re: Dermatology visit & sun exposure & proper clothing
I go every six months...been on boats and in the sun for way too long. The long term sun damage is catching up with me so that is why I go twice a year. I will certainly spend some monay on sunblock clothing...I have heard good things about it. Normally I sail in cotton long sleave shirt, big hat......

Re: prop question for a CD 28.
I didn't put a 3 blade prop on my boat to go faster ... (I'm not sure the three blade vs. two blade makes much difference for speed). I wanted the 3 blade prop so that I could STOP the boat when needed and 3 blades will definitely make a difference. Yes, as slowly as possible is the best way to appr...

Re: prop question for a CD 28.
Just typed a long response....and lost it....so here goes an abbreviated version. 2 blade prop: slow starting and stopping. Sometimes a bit of "speeed" is necessary for steerage. In a crowded marina full of expensive yachts, you need to be able to STOP the boat....a 3 blade prop does the j...
