correct prop for CD 28

Post by rdmac »

78 28' cd md7a 13 hp.
have a 2 blade 13x13 with poor stopping power and poor push thru wind and waves.
found a 14x10 3 blade but am thinking it's too aggressive.
would like to hear from others, what size 3blade do have and what size diesel.
doug in menominee, MI.

CD 30 with an asthmatic MD7a also, and similarly ineffective 13x13 (but LH). Campbell specifically suggested a 13x9 3 blade, and I am weighing the usefulness of the $550 outlay. (vs. an imminent, but unknown repower...)

My guess is the 14" will fill the aperture (does the 28 have a closed rudder? I suspect so.) and lug the typical 30 yo diesel. Have it repitched to 9 and see if the extra 1/2" on each blade will eat up the opening...

I'd personally sell both props and get a 13"

I used this prop for about 8 years in my CD 28 and it worked great...the only reason I removed it was that I repowered and the Beta Marine engine required a RH prop. There was plenty of clearance.
