Repowering - CD 28 - day one

After a very long day, we removed the MD2B volvo from my 1976 CD 28. It actually wasn't that bad and I didn't even need to have the yard use the crane. We dismantled the engine...piece by piece by piece. Finally detached the transmission and the gear housing from the rear of the engine and removed i...

Repowering with Beta Marine......need prop advice.

I am currently looking at a brand new Beta Marine 722 sitting in the middle of my living room. Just arrived new in the box....when I opened it, it was so beautiful...I wept. Anyway, I will soon install it in my CD 28 along with a dripless shaft seal, new cutless bearing......and new prop. I currentl...

My recomendation

I have spent more money on cheap dinghys than I care to admit. Finally I bought a Walker Bay 8 and it is perfect. Indestructable, light and easy to manage....and best of all, it doesn't leave a mark or gouge if I bump up against the hull. I recommend one. Sometimes I tow it and it does fine.....I al...

Try the boatdiesel site

There is an excellent forum for boat diesels.....www.boatdiesel.com. You should be able to get a diagram and other information from the volvo section. I have the diagram for the md2b which includes info for your engine as well if you need it.

Opening ports

Mike, I have a CD 28...1976...it was one of the old "no frills" edition and had lousy plastic ports which were badly checking and leaked like crazy. I took the plunge and replaced them all with NewFound Metal ports and I love 'em. They never leak a drop...they are clear and clean and easy ...

abandoned typhoon

Send me an email and I will give you whatever information I have on the boat...which isn't much....just the name of the owner which I got from someone who lives adjacent to the property where the boat is stored. I would prefer not to post the name and number since I don't know the owner.

I appreciate your responses

It was good to get your insights on the hatch. I definitely will install a hatch and thank you for the referrals to sources. It will not be a difficult job...and just having the light and ability to have tools handed down will make the whole thing worth it. Thanks again everyone.

Jib boom for club foot jib

The outhaul end of my club foot jib boom is broken....in other words, the cap that fits into the spar and enables me to attache the topping life and the outhaul for the jib needs to be replaced. I bought a new one from RigRite and came as close as possible to the size...but it does not fit.....any s...

Cockpit hatch?

If you have ever wiggled through the lockers and worked on the aft end of the the diesel in a CD 28 you have probably wondered: "What in blazes were they thinking!?". It gets harder every year and one of the problems is that it becomes easier to take an "out of sight, out of mind"...

Typhoon in Delaware

For the past 12 years there has been an abandoned Typhoon sitting along the roadside here in Delaware. It is located on Route 113...Partially in the woods, surrounded by small trees and sitting on a cradle...lots of leaves on it....but it looks restorable. The seacocks are open so it has not filled ...
