The boat was not in the water but on jack stands. I removed the inlet hose from the seacock and connected a 3ft extension in order to place in a bucket of water.
I winterized the engine so there was no lake water in the system at all.

1978 CD28 - Raw Water not Circulating
When I winterized my boat in Nov, 2022...she circulating the antifreeze perfectly fine. I started the engine, prior to going in the water last weekend, and I could not get the system to circulate water. Didn't matter how I positioned the bucket. Thinking it needed priming, shouldn't, I put a funnel ...

Bronze Bow Roller Assy
Looking for a used bronze bow roller assy. I know spartan Marine offers them at $700. Just can't justify that cost.

Bottom Sander
Can anyone weigh in? Mirka sanders are very expensive and I cannot locate anything used. What is a quality alternative?

Re: Teak Craftsmen???
Thanks Jim. I knew of several methods to build height to a traveler system but not aware of what you shared. Knowing I'll spend more with a teak solution....I'm after a touch of beauty. My thought is two profiled bases of teak on the extreme ends of the span. Each end to have a router profile to rec...

Teak Craftsmen???
My Cape Dory 28 "The Courage of James" is a 1978 100% original. This off season I will be making significant upgrades. In question and looking for feedback...I'm installing a main sail traveler in the location of the original swivel blocks. However, I need to get the track above the centra...

Re: Volvo Penta MD7A - Reverse Gear Box
Thanks to the both of you. I removed the inlet hose from the thru hull and submerged in a 5 gallon bucket of water, then ran the engine for about 25 min. Could never get the temp as high as I wanted but am certain the thermostat had opened. Then put a gallon of winter fluid in the bucket and let it ...

Volvo Penta MD7A - Reverse Gear Box
Who has winterized their MD7A and drained the water from the reversing gear box? I found the Screw?? on the bottom side. Did you refill with winterizing fluid? Do you refill with water in the spring? This unit appears to be a device on its own, requiring its own oil chamber and cooling chamber. Do I...

Re: 25D vs. 27
My two cents.... I started out searching for a 22-then 25D-then 27. The 22 wasn't priced properly and the owner was not motivated to correct. Couldn't locate a 25D on the great lakes and the 27 was well outside of the estimated value. So then I discovered a 28. It has 6ft 2in of headroom, 8 opening ...

Re: CD28 Hatch Repalcement
David,
So you removed your hatch and cleaned, then re-bedded with new gasket material. And you then replaced the glass. All the while keeping the original hatch cast and dogs?

CD28 Hatch Repalcement
I have a 1978 CD28 (The Courage of James). It's time to replace the forward hatch. Original is a Bomar and seriously considering staying with that. Practical Sailor highly rates this maker and I would like to stay with a cast unit vs extrusion. For those who have made this replacement.....thoughts? ...
