Re: Cape Dory 30-36 Chainplates

My CD33 hull #8 has the mild steel "weldment". Like Frenchy's comment, mine are in good shape with only some surface rust. weldment.png For the rust to reach the lower portions parts of the weldment that are glassed in to the hull, my opinion is there would have to be signs of water intrus...

Re: Searching for a '24 Cape Dory Trawler

I owned a Cape Dory 24T for 5 years, loved that boat and cried when I sold it to get my CD33 Sloop. Great boat if you can find one for sale. I've seen a few in the RI area over the years. But I would definitely consider the CD 28, would be much more comfortable living aboard.

Re: What's inside my rudder?

I occurred to me that maybe they let the foam dry first in each half. But then there would be no chemical bond between the two foam sections. Maybe they spray an adhesive on each (now dry and set-up) foam section before clamping the halves together; but I've never seen mention of that in articles l...

Re: What's inside my rudder?

Perhaps if you PM John he could share some details which never made it to his website
It never occurred to me that could be possible. :D

Re: What's inside my rudder?

I've searched this board vigorously, and have never found anything conclusive that suggests every rudder is the same. Some describe 3/8 inch horizontal fingers coming off the rudder stock (shaft), some say their shaft is not continuous through the rudder (two parts). The only description that seems ...

Re: Cape Dory 36 dodger, Bimini, connector for sale

I'm wondering if this would fit my CD 33. I can't afford a new dodger but I'm capable of modifying an existing one to fit.

Would you have a pic of it when it was on the boat to give me a rough estimate of size/cut?

Sorry I missed this. Is there a Narragansett Bay Float scheduled this year? Are there details and a date yet?

Re: Speaking of the 24

Joe,

Sadly no, buyer took her back to the Cape where she was when I bought her. We kept in touch for a while, I may look for the P&S in my records, maybe try to track him down again see how he and the boat are doing.

Re: Custom fuel tank

Also just to clarify, many specific portions of the ABYC recommendations have been adopted by reference within the CFRs, and are enforced by the Coast Guard, such as certain ones related to gasoline fuel systems, propane systems and waste holding systems, etc. You can find them all listed in a user ...

Re: Custom fuel tank

John,

Seasonally draining the last few inches that don't get siphoned by the pickup tube in regular use will extend the life of your new tank indefinitely. If you can perform the same service using a cleanout, our siphoning out via the fill tube, any way you get it done is a good thing.

Re: Custom fuel tank

Not true unless they have recently changed it. Even so you should put one in for a tank is accessible. Obviously not useful on a hidden tank. ABYC H-33.5 (j) Drain valves on the filter(s) and fuel tank(s) shall be of the type which cannot be opened inadvertently, or shall be installed in a manner to...

Re: Custom fuel tank

I have replaced a few for myself and clients. Assume hidden issues for sure after 30 yrs, unless you can fully examine all sides, bottom, and scope it inside. If it can be removed easily it's definitely preferable to waiting for a leak that will appear at the worst time (and fill the bilge with fuel...

Re: Old paint colors

I found Interlux Grand Banks Beige to be a close match to the khaki color of internal locker spaces on both my CDs. If you want to match those CD beige tones perfectly, as I did when I redid my cockpit sole on my 33 and had to paint the nonskid, I found mixing different ratios of Interlux Bristol Be...
