Searching for a '24 Cape Dory Trawler

Post by Keady100 »

I am a new member to the board and I am looking to purchase a 24' Cape Dory Trawler. I am located in Massachusetts, but willing to travel if needed. I am starting to plan to do the Great Loop solo and think the 24' Cape Dory is the right boat for the trip.

Thanks again for any assistance.

I've been looking for one too, and they rarely come up for sale. Only 17 were made. Good luck!

As Joe mentioned, the CD24 trawler is kind of a unicorn. The CD28 Cruiser is much more plentiful and can easily be single-handed. The wider side decks make going to the forepeak anchor locker safer. I know this wasn't your question, but the CD28 Cruiser model isn't exactly slumming it.

I owned a Cape Dory 24T for 5 years, loved that boat and cried when I sold it to get my CD33 Sloop. Great boat if you can find one for sale. I've seen a few in the RI area over the years. But I would definitely consider the CD 28, would be much more comfortable living aboard.

The reason so few were built is because the CD24 rolled violently in a beam sea situation. The roll was due to the very soft chines in the hull design.

I just joined the Board.
I am the owner of a Cape Dory 24 Trawler that I purchased three years ago that I would like to sell to someone who would have more time to enjoy it than I do. The boat is a 1984 model and, although it shows its age, it is in good working order and I have made whatever upgrades and maintenance that have been necessary to keep it so. A new owner could enjoy the boat as is or could restore it to whatever condition a new owner would like. The boat has been winterized and is under cover on land in Delran, NJ at Riverside Marina. If you are interested in purchasing the boat, you can contact Sean at Riverside Marina at (609)519-5679 or you can reply to this post.

Thank you.
