Re: 25D Upwind in Waves

I think I would try a 100 % jib or a blade jib coupled with a single reef in the main
How would you attach it? Would you try to hoist it unstayed or to try and run a dyneema "stay" like I'd described?

25D Upwind in Waves

Picking up off this topic about 25D upwind sailing , and hoping to drill down on heavier winds. I realize ( and have asked before ) about 25kt+ winds. I realize that it's unrealistic to expect any forward progress in those conditions in a 25D, and that trying would be "trying" to put it ge...

Re: Inner Genoa Tracks

I have a similar set of tracks on my 25D. I use them with the genoa furled less than 100%, which this windy summer was pretty often. Noticed that my 150% genoa, when furled below 100%, has a truly awful sail shape. It just bags out. Moving the car forwards (more than I would think) seems to help a l...

Re: How to Quiet Old Diesel

Sorry, I keep hearing about a radar alarm. What alarm are you talking about? My Garmin radar doesn't seem to have an alarm, unless I'm not using all of its features (which is entirely possible). Hi Carl, it's a proximity alarm. I can create an arc forward of my position (or a circle all the way aro...

Re: Repowering a 25D

I'm interested in the details of a beta 14 repower for a 25d. Overall cost? Did it need a new wiring harness? New mounts? Any mods to engine compartment or prop shaft/prop?

Thanks!

Re: White smoke from my 1gm

Well, I've got my boat back from the shop. They found that the camshaft was not really bent, but only the tip was. So they are suggesting that I: - get the injector tested (done - works fine) - clean out the injector port where it installs really well and replace the gaskets - check the prop size (I...

Re: CD 25D engine replacement advice

Do you have a sense for the speed you could operate at continuously with a reasonably sized (i.e. 2200 watt) generator running?

Re: White smoke from my 1gm

Do you observe that you get white smoke at all RPMs? I've noticed that my 1GM produces white smoke at startup for a few minutes, then it mostly clears up. However, after warmup I get white smoke from 2400-2800 RPMs and black smoke above 2800 RPMs. I think my engine may have issues, so I don't think ...

Re: Water Tank Cleaning

Interesting. I hadn't really thought about the water coming into my tank. That makes sense. I do have a small inline water filter that I can try, and replacing with a larger pump isn't hard. I think I will pull my water tank this winter and add a cleaning port for the other side. Even if I use a dow...

Re: Genoa Block Sheave Replacement.

I found this block on sale for $10 at my mechanic's office. Pulled apart the old slide and this worked. Ordered another one for $32. https://www.dropbox.com/s/636lcsc79enzjbr/Genoa%20Block.jpg?raw=1 Clearly a hack, and it'll flop over onto the deck, but I'm good with it for now. I do think I'll prob...

Re: Ice box in 25D

Thanks Steve,

I've thought about that option, but I don't really want to remove panels to clean. If I can find the right product, running some insulation into the existing cavity also seems like it would be pretty quick.

Re: How to Quiet Old Diesel

Thanks Joe. That's what my mechanic recommended too. A remote speaker and remote mic. s2sailorlis I didn't record the RPMs, but I suspect around 1000. It's with the mechanic and I'm hoping to hear why it's wobbly this week. If yours is wobbly (and especially if that's been ok) that would be very int...

Water Tank Cleaning

My water tank has lots of little white flecks in it. I've drained, sailed (to agitate the water), and refilled the tank (with a tablespoon of bleach added) about a dozen times. Once I added 3 cups of bleach to a full tank and sailed 20 miles with it that way. While most of the flakes are smaller now...

Re: CD 25D engine replacement advice

Tim, would your new motor/battery combination have still been cheaper had you kept the requirement to be able to go 6 knots or to be able to motor into heavy seas?

I'm regularly cruising in areas with light winds and need to make 50-mile days.

Re: Ice box in 25D

I realie this is an old thread, but I have the same question and wonder if anyone knows what kind of insulation you'd use to replicate Larry's solution?
