Re: Rudder Post Drip Cure ... success !

Brilliant….I have a CD28 with the same problem. Mine also stopped before lift out. Once cleaned and anti fouled, the water was back! Next lift out I will try the braid as you did. Well done. Hope it works on our boat. :)

According to the CD28 manual I have, the Bob stay should be quarter inch by three foot six. Looks like you have the right weight of wire. Not sure about the connections. My CD28 has no Bob stay, just a large stainless steel support!

I know you can post pics, but, is it possible to post short video clips? If so, how?

Many thanks

Re: A cracking sail in the sun.

Thank you. I must admit, the new sails make SUCH a difference! We managed 5.5 knots SOG .rather surprised. :D

Re: Is my CD28 sinking?

Many thanks for the comments. Looks like I just need to live with it. The survey I have mentioned slight play in the top bearing and suggested it should ‘be monitored’. Does anyone know what is involved in renewing that bearing? Does it involve a lift out to remove the rudder? Is it a DIY job? Happy...

Re: Is my CD28 sinking?

Good to know it’s not just me! Re bilges, very little in there. Only ever a small amount in the rear bilge. The self drain in the cockpit was re piped at the refit to take the water outboard. Very slight leak from the shaft stuffing gland. Not significant. Regards the gland on the rudder stock, what...

Is my CD28 sinking?

I have noticed, while under way by engine, that if the revs are over 1500, water comes into the cockpit round the rudder stock. Also, under sail, in a fair breeze, same thing…water round the rudder stock. The cockpit is self draining, so no problem there, but just a bit alarming. Is this normal? Can...

Re: Better engine access cd 28

The access makes a lot of sense. When in the range did it change? Re the Yanmar, it is almost new. Fitted 2013 but has only got 323 hours on the meter. She had a major refit between 2011 and 13. Perhaps a 30hp engine is a bit of overkill for a CD28, but I was glad of it when I got 20mph wind on the ...

Re: Better engine access cd 28

You guys have a totally different setup to my CD 28. Pics attached of my access. I also have a hatch in the port cockpit locker to give access to gearbox, shaft and stern gear.

First lift out since we got her. Glad to say, all good below! Antifoul applied, by my assistant, and engine serviced. Ready to go again next Monday.

Re: New CD28 Lazy Beaver

Sorry Pete, just saw your post. The engine was replaced in 2013 when all the upgrade work was done. It now has a 30hp yanmar indirect cooling including a calorifier for hot water to galley and heads. When we bought her, the engine meter noted 272 hours, so bearly run in! We collected the new sails i...

Re: Cape Dory 28 main sheet halyard.

All useful info. Thanks for all the replies. Btw, the new sails make a HUGE difference. Just need to mouse and measure before calling on the services of the local chandlers where my wife used to work. Hoping for ‘mates rates’ or maybe x staff discount

Cape Dory 28 main sheet halyard.

Lazy beaver at present has a main sheet halyard of wire, from the sail, spliced to rope . When the sail is fully up, the wire is down as far as the mast winch. This makes things difficult as the wire does not bend readily round the winch and slips. Is there any reason it has to be wire? Could the ha...
