Re: Looking for Fuel Tank Design Input

I used Luther's as well. 5052 aluminum. I have yet to read/hear that SS or poly is a better choice, particularly if the tank is mounted in a clean, dry location. And steel? Only if cost is a concern, which I doubt it is. Resale would certainly not be as good with a steel tank. At 20 gallons, I suspe...

Re: Gasket jig

Mea culpa. Sorry. I don't frequent the Board these days, but upon seeing this post, I went straight to the post office. The jig should be to Steve on Monday. Thanks. And sorry again. FWIW, I ended up making my own jig because Steve's didn't fit in my ports. It worked for making the gaskets, but it d...

Re: Typhoon Adventures

We've sailed that area more than a few times. Pick the right weather and you shouldn't have any problems; in fact, you'd probably have a blast. Sounds like a fun trip. Strong W and SW winds can send some decent sized waves up the coast from Sleeping Bear Dunes to Pyramid Point and through the passag...

Re: Winter Mast Storage

Fifteen years of winter storage here in Michigan. We've stored mast up and mast down. Pulling the stick aboard Ariel (CD36) actually creates more wear and tear - and stress - than leaving her mast up. Your mileage may vary since you're sailing a CD27 with a deck-stepped mast. Some things to think ab...

A 6-volt bulb with a BA9s base and a 360 degree beam angle.
Is this what you're after? http://ariel-cd36.org/wordpress/?p=778 The bulb is still going strong, by the way.

Re: Typhoon WE delam and soft spots

Discovered my newly purchased 76 Ty WE had many holes sawed into her that were not sealed right and have quite a bit of wet rotted balsa, Most alarming is a jury rigged rear running light that allowed water in near the transom deck joint close to rear stay. The other is a 1.5" diameter hole fo...

Re: What Winter Project are you Working On?

On the CD? Pulling the gearbox to replace the damper plate. Repainting the nonskid.

On other boats: deck recore, exhaust system overhaul, construction of a holding tank, installation of water tank and other systems. Way more than I can accomplish before spring, it seems.

Re: Buying a CD25 question...

Or you could have an epic summer adventure and bring her from the Finger Lakes to Chicago on her own bottom. Just a thought. Not many people ever get that much use out of their boat.

Re: CD30K chainplates

You could always go with external chainplates. Not exactly the streamlined CD look, but probably a lot less invasive than reconstructing from the inside.

Re: How is the weather where you are?

Sorry about all the snow, but good to hear from you OJ. I was just thinking about you the other day. We've had very little snow on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan - unfortunately. I always talk myself into liking the snow and ice because it translates to higher water levels in the spring and summ...

Re: Discoloration near prop

I'm curious: Any chance you have an oil leak in either your engine or transmission that is allowing oil to leak down the prop shaft and find its way to the bottom paint? I had a similar "stain" on my Alberg 30's ablative bottom paint after oil leaked down a cockpit scupper. Seemed almost l...

Re: Companionway drip.....drip.....drip

You're doing the right thing. This summer I removed the seahood, cleaned up all the joints, and resealed. It worked, but I know that a long-term fix is doing what you're doing. Good for you. Any evidence of water intrusion through the fastener holes? It's nice to see what's under those pieces of tri...
