Re: 25D windward ability?
After 15 years of hank-on and -off headsails, I’m going to roller-furling, but I’m staying (for now at least) with a 100% jib, not a genoa. Maybe those early days of wrestling with hank-on jennies soured me on larger headsails, but there are advantages to the smaller, set-and-forget jib that perform...

Re: 25D Upwind in Waves
I'll echo Fred's observations. After one season sailing Buzzards Bay with a 135% hank-on genoa, I "retreated" to the 100% working jib and retired the larger sail. Seems to me like the 25D was designed for the smaller headsail - which must be carried at all times. Closer sheeting than the g...

Re: Rusting Anchor
Thanks all. The Rust-Oleum zinc paint does say to apply onto bare metal or galvanized surface free from rust. I'll give it a try. Interestingly, the instructions also say to use a latex topcoat. - Steve

Rusting Anchor
The galvanizing on the old 25# CQR has failed in places. My initial plan was to spot-prime with rust-converter (I've had good luck with this on other projects) and then prime and paint the whole anchor. But now I'm wondering if it might bee better to apply epoxy over the whole anchor and then paint....

Re: Looking for rigger to replace CD 31 original lifelines
Rigging Only in Fairhaven MA replaced my lifelines three years ago. Used the original gate hooks (pelican hooks) and saved some $$ Nice to deal with and last I looked spoken highly of by others on this board.

Re: Engine sump
I empty the engine pan with a fuel bulb: about 1 ft. of stiff hose to insert into the pan and about 6 ft. of flexible rubber hose from the bulb up through the companionway, over the bridge deck, and down into a cockpit drains. Didn't think the bulb would lift to that height, but it works.

Re: Battery ground disconnect and overcharge
Sorry about the multiple postings - and I had the battery numbers screwed up (#2 battery is the aftermost one in the cockpit locker, the battery whose ground was accidentally disconnected. Looks like I will be replacing the alternator. The Yanmar Service Manual for the 1GM, 2GM, 3GM and 3HM is inval...

Battery ground disconnect and overcharge
I know almost nothing about batteries and alternators, but here goes… Arabella has two lead-acid batteries. Battery #2 became dislodged and the heavy-duty ground wire that goes from its negative terminal to that of battery #1 came away, but the ground wire from the terminal to the battery switch sta...

Change gear box oil Yanmar 1GM
Planning to do it myself this time. Extract oil through the dipstick opening is what I've been told. Before I go out to the boat, can anyone tell me what size (o.d.) plastic hose/tube will fit in the hole? Thanks. - Steve D.

Re: Can you use teak cleaner on other woods? (Oars)
For my ash oars, I lightly sand, clean with teak cleaner, or dish soap with wood bleach (oxalic acid), let dry, then apply Semco teak sealer, as much as the wood will absorb, usually takes about three coats, excess sealer wiped away. Lasts pretty much the whole season with oars left in the skiff exp...

Creme Brûlée
Joe - Creme Brûlée looked great yesterday afternoon in Megansett outer harbor. My brother and I were in the process of weighing anchor (heavy lifting), and heading back to Fairhaven on that strong SSE breeze. How the winds change after Labor Day in Buzzards Bay! Thanks for the wave. - Steve
