Re: The best rum

So Ed, what was the name of that "heap strong fire water" you, Rit and myself drank with all of the other boat owners at Waterford, at the end/beginning of the Erie Canal? Whew!!! O J You know, OJ, Rit always had his favorite of anything but it was usually what he had aboard. When I sailed...

Re: The best rum

I humbly submit that the best rum of all times is the rum in your glass while the question is being considered! :D :D

Re: DRAGGING THROTTLE

If you can't find a cable brake (which depresses the cable housing along an inch of the cable's length, then a small hose clamp will work OK. Change the position of the clamps each year (just move a couple inches or so along the length of the cable) so you don't wear the inside of the cable housing ...

Re: Aground!

Take another swim under your boat and determine if the bottom or sides of the keel have been gouged or scraped deeply. Most of the groundings as you described take the paint off and some deeper scrape damage. The fiberglass on the bottom is at least an inch thick. Any major gouging can be filled wit...

Groco Model HF-B china head - unused in box

I have an unused in box white china head that I'd like to sell. The toilet was never hooked up and was never removed from the packaging materials. It has an unopened wooden toilet seat and all the connections/connectors needed for hookup to replace one that you may have that is cracked. When I purch...

More information would be helpful, such as pictures and equipment inventory. Do you have a cradle?

Re: La Vida Shoved Off Today

Mike and Sue arrived near Rome between Lock E-19 and Lock E-20 for a refreshing shower, dinner and visit at our home. It was nice to see LaVida and her crew on a cruise. Because of all the continuing rains, the Erie Canal remains closed east of LaVida's present position at Lock E-20. Locks E-15 thru...

Re: Insurance company in New England

I once had a claim sent in to Boat US for damage to my teak rail caused by another boat. The damage amount in the claim came to $1200. I received a letter from Boat US shortly after I sent it in along with a check written for $1400, two hundred dollars more than the claim I sent in. The explanation ...

Re: The mystery of water in the engine pan

Since the amount of water varies with the rainfall, my guess is that the leak is somewhere along the floor of the cockpit such as the rudder post housing, helm base if you have a wheel or other plate on the floor. I would also expect to see some core rot at the site of the leak. The large amounts of...

Re: Dingy Davits on a CD 30 MKII

Hey, Michael. Hope you and Nan are doing well. If you remember my CD330 Mokita, it had dinghy davits on her stern when I bought her in 2001. It had a 10 ft. inflatable/hard bottom dinghy attached and seemed to be a great solution to using a dinghy. However, in actual sailing, the davits could not li...

Re: New Owner of a CD 10

The CD10 is a great little boat. I'm tall and fat and can still sail her in wind that makes your eyes water - after you get dumped in the lake ;0)) . Seriously, my only difficulty is wanting to return to port when I'm hurting from moving around so much. To keep the oar from rubbing off the varnish w...

Re: Bow deck hardware removal ??

I used a pair of vice-grips to hold the nut below while I turned the bolt from above. The adhesive/sealer that encapsulated the nuts below kept the threads from oxidizing when I removed my stay platform but still the bolt was hard to turn at first. But when it finally loosened (after application of ...

Oh, no!!?!!

Did someone attach a preventer (probably a short-line boom vang) to a lifeline while cruising downwind with the main swung out? Smarter sailors than me have tried that one.
