Re: About the Universal M25XpB engine
I just bought a boat (Morgan 364) with a M25XPB. It is pretty rattly in idle but as Jim points out, chewing up transmissions is not something engines do unless there's a serious issue. The person who said that may have been conflating the reputation of the much maligned Hurth 50 (ZF5M) transmissions...

Re: Whoa. This guy doesn't like Alberg
I'm no expert by any means and I do love my 28, with that said I think the guy has a point. I would not be at all surprised that a boat that is designed with the benefit of more complex theory/understanding of the dynamics of wave and hull interaction makes a safer sea boat. There is a pretty dieha...

Re: Engine swap
I did this job, and it was worth it. Hardest part was rebuilding the engine beds. I went from the original Volvo MD2B to a Yanmar 2GM20F. I would wait and try to find a 2 cylinder motor, either a Yanmar or a Universal (one of the ones that uses a Kubota block) instead of going for the 3 cylinder. Yo...

Re: CD 25 vs. Meridian 25
The Meridian will be a pretty similar ride to the Cape Dory. I had a Rhodes Swiftsure (same builder) and it was a sweet sailing boat. Phil Rhodes really knew what he was doing.

Re: Cape Dory 28 SV "Fayaway" for sale-$22,500
The sale will be handed over to a broker next week. Until then, I'll drop the price to $19,500. I have found a new boat so I am willing to accept offers so I don't have to finance the purchase.

Cape Dory 28 SV "Fayaway" for sale-$19,500 SOLD
Well the time has come to sell hull #2, Fayaway, because I am looking to a future where my wife and I have kids and as a result will need a bigger boat. I have doted on this boat for four years now and she is essentially a turn-key offshore pocket cruiser for 1 or 2 people. I am listing her here fir...

Re: Repowering a CD 28
I re-powered my CD28 (#2) with a Yanmar 2gm20f. I had an MD2B (as far as I know only the first two boats had them) so the particulars might be different but I had to replace the engine beds. It was a big job but not exceptionally difficult. If you're interested I can share the details. I built new e...

Re: Looking/Wanting to Buy - Bronze Hardware
You may know this already but Spartan is still in business and makes all the parts you seek. They are easy to deal with and the quality is, as expected, superb. Not cheap, but if you are outfitting for serious sailing, cheap is not a part of the equation. Ask me how I know  www.spartanmarine.com

Re: UV Protection for Genoa
Repair is often an option if replacement is too costly. Some patching and restitching shouldn't be too expensive. I replaced the one on my own genoa (just changing the color, because it didn't match the rest of the canvas  ) and it was time consuming. If the sail is old it might be worth repla...

Re: CD 25D engine replacement advice
If you have any intention of cruising or want to recover any part of your investment in the boat, do not go with electric. I am in favor of the concept but the technology is not there yet to make it a practical choice for anything but a lightly used daysailer. I would look at a new Beta diesel as a ...

Re: US/Annapolis Sailboat Show….
I enjoy it, getting to see the new boats is a lot of fun. Sunday and Monday are the best days because there are fewer people and the lines for the boats are shorter. If you have specific questions on equipment you can usually corner someone from the manufacturer and learn a lot from them. For exampl...
