Precision Propellor/max rpms
Hello, I just want to recommend Gabe at Precision Propellor in Newburgh NY if anyone needs help. I put a Beta 14 in my CD 28 three years ago and started with a Campbell Sailor prop. The prop was way overpitched on install, I could only get 5.2 knots, and 2800 of 3600 RPMS. Then when sent back for ad...

Re: stuffing box
Hello, I have a 28 and the same problem. The Spartan wrenches help a lot. I just go open both lockers, tie them open, crawl in like an above post, using a cushion for my chest when I lie down. Otherwise I come out all black and blue.

Re: CD27 prop replacement source
I don't have anything good to say about Kelsey at West by North. When I installed a new Beta 14 on my CD28 I decided to give Campbell a try. The first time Kelsey sent me a prop it was over pitched, I couldn't get max RPMs and had black smoke. Not his fault, it can take some back and forth. I gave h...

Re: Battery Dilemma
I'll be up Sunday and you can help me with my chores as well as consume some pizza and Peyraud! I'd be cautious about combining your new battery with the two old ones via the parallel switch. I think the old batteries can suck the life out of the new one, but perhaps someone else can comment.

Re: Battery Dilemma
Hello David, did you decide to replace all three, or just the one?

...and the thick, dull Campbell blades catch floating seaweed like crazy up here in Maine, and reversing only serves to tighten it up. I never had that problem with my old prop.

Re: Re-powering a 25D
Neil, What prop diameter and pitch do you have? And what do you see in terms of speed and power? I had a Beta 14 installed on my CD28 and made a huge mistake when I also installed a Campbell Sailor prop. It was overpitched to start with so I could only get 2800 of 3600 rpms and smoke, then repitched...

Re: winterizing mooring
Sounds like what I do, which has worked well since 1998. For the winter I use a positive floatation buoy, such as a large lobster buoy, and not an inflatable. Of course, if this mooring is in an anchorage like Seal Bay or Perry Creek or some such place, where if it is lost over the winter it will fo...

Re: installing a mooring
I'm still wondering where this mooring is that the guy helping you thought it was too much chain. It sounds like a lot to me as well, but are you in Falmouth Maine (rough), or Perry Creek Vinalhaven (duck pond calm)? That would make a difference.

Re: Engine maxing out at 2500RPM in FWD - 3000RPM+ in Revers
What is the max rating of your engine? My old engine, a Universal M18, was rated at 3200, but I only got 2400 in forward due to the prop being overpitched. I never tried to max out in reverse.

Re: In the Toilet
Even before I repost, try to contact Groco. They may have what you need. I just tried to order a part from Hamilton, but was told it was no longer available. I contacted the manufacturer directly and was told they (the manufacturer) had plenty in stock and would ship direct.

Re: In the Toilet
Hello, If you ship your pump assembly back to Groco, they will rebuild it for you, if possible. I am away from home right now, but I think I have the name of the person that does the rebuilding, and a direct phone number so you can call and ask. I have sent mine in for a rebuild, and I have a rebuil...

Re: Help Sourcing an Oil Pan for Universal M-30 /5424?
Wow! You got a deal on the elbow. I think mine was $150, and that was eight years ago. Of course, that may have been for everything: elbow, flange, and gasket. I didn't break a stud. The nuts turned off two of them, and the third one the stud came out as well. Pre-treat with a penetrating oil and le...
