I have a wheel on Really Muggy and like it very much. I sailed the same boat with a tiller in Maine and did not find it as relaxing as having a wheel.
I like the wheel very much!
Really Muggy is for sale in Salem Harbor, Mass as we are in fresh water in Maine with a smaller boat

Stipping the bottom
I did this work several years ago and like John Stone, I tried chemical strippers and got marginal results... I took a belt sander and a shop vac, got a 1" vac hose. I did not try soy stripper, but use the woosy orange stripper, tried 5f5 and then gave up after it ate my gloves I had 14 coats o...

Check Valve
West Marine sells a plastic check valve for this applictaion. I have used one for 8 years without any issue. In your winter shutdown list, remove the checkvalve and let the water in the line drain so as to not freeze. I put the valve about 3" from the pump in the bilge. simple fix and the probl...

Well, I replaced all my wiring and was having a real time putting the wires in because I was hitting a block. After cleaning out the mast (pulled the mast head and ran a snake in I found that the previous owner taped the electrical wires together and run coax for the antennae... And after they put t...

Purchasing custom poly tanks
My CD28I did not have a tank when I bought it for the waste, only an overboard hose. I added a tank, whale pump, deck pumpout and Y valve which all work very well. There was a company in Rhode Island which I purchased a 25+ gal tak which fit under the left birth. The tank was custom designed by me s...

Would you consider a 1979 CD28 Intrepid?
I am selling Really Muggy, in good shape, new main sail for $10K and it includes new Doyle sail plus 3 other sails. The price is firm because the other Cape Dorys this size are above $13K so please don't look for a lower price. I am downsizing to a Compaq 19 because we bought a camp in Maine and hav...

Thanks lobstahpotts, I think you are correct about the boat. He does have access to an old woodworking shop. My other suggestion for my brother was to find out if there were severely damage CD30 out of Katrina or other storms to get parts. The other interesting issue is that the shower and sinks all...

My brother is refitting the interior of a CD30 for friend. She purchased a boat that had the interior readically altered and wants to bring it back. Derigging
When the crew transports my CD 28 Intrepid, we demast, then they tookk shrink wrap and wrap the shrouds, all line etc., right to the mast. The mast rides in a mast carrier which is on the side of the trailer and not on the boat. The railing system is not meant to carry the load of the mast and havin...

How to find wires
First, put the drill away. The bow pulpits attach to the decking in a few places. The wire MUST come through one of those connections to get below deck if the bow light is directly attached to the bow Pulpit. Go into the vbirth and start looking around. The wires are almost always run down the side ...
