Re: 25D NANCY DAWSON for sale
The starboard berth can be pulled out to the centerline to form a double with a 6'-3" length (the notch you see in the lower edge of the back cushion fits over the compression post when the cushions are rearranged for the pull-out.) The port berth extends forward into the footwell so its total ...

25D NANCY DAWSON for sale
I am putting NANCY DAWSON, a 25D, on the market after 24 years of ownership. Currently on the hard in Shady Side, MD, she will be readied for a spring launch and commissioning on or about May 1, 2021. Planned pre-launch maintenance includes de-winterizing and exterior teak touch-up. This will be the...

Re: Yanmar 1gm vented loop?
Here are some photos of the siphon break. The first is an overall shot looking aft, at counter level. (The big white horizontal band is the top of the opening into the engine compartment.) I've added a dotted line to show the route of the hose that runs from the tee, ending in the cockpit at the ven...

Re: Yanmar 1gm vented loop?
No, Steve. Same thing. What I've described is essentially a vented loop, but the "loop" part is the existing top hose in the cooling system and the "vent" part is the hose that ends in the cockpit. Since it's vented to atmosphere, there is no possibility of siphoning, which is th...

Re: Yanmar 1gm vented loop?
I've done this by teeing into the thermostat-to-exhaust elbow hose and running a short piece of hose from there up to atmosphere, namely a vent (like a transom vent) in the cockpit just below the bridge deck. I was concerned at first that cooling water might be driven up that hose and spew out into ...

Re: Mayday, Mayday, Mayday! 1GM in Distress!
Since a lot of this thread has to do with internal corrosion, I'd point out that it's a good idea to fresh-water flush a raw-water-cooled engine when you can. I've been doing this on my 1GM whenever I return to my slip, sucking from a bucket of water to a tee just before the water pump. (If you're o...

Re: Connecting two lengths of Chain
Here's one method suggested by Practical Sailor. The shackles can be sized for the chain. A bit pricey, but secure - it's not the weak link!

Liner oil-canning?
For several years now, I've noticed a knocking sound when my 1982 25D pitches in waves. It sounds like a small hammer hitting wood, with a frequency matching the pitching period. Some days it'll be obvious, some not. This year it seems to occur more frequently than in the past. The noise emanates fr...

Re: Cape Dory 25D seacocks
"Starboard" can't be glued or epoxied. They'll tell you it can be "sealed" with 5200, but I've found that not to be the case (when I made new cockpit locker coamings with it - I bedded them in 5200, but they still leaked at the interface.) You want a good bond with the hull, so t...

Re: How to drain the fresh water tank?
Siphon it to the bilge through the top access and pump it overboard. That'll give your pump a good test too.

By all means keep the PVC; you'll never have to worry about that section.

1GM pump removal
The easy way to remove the pump is to use a socket on a wrench with a 3-inch or so extension. Remove the two hoses and you'll have a straight shot at each of the three bolt heads. Take out the bolts, pull out the pump. No tedium. When you reinstall it, you may have to rotate it a bit until the pump ...

Another possibility is pressure loss within the pump. I know nothing about your pump, but the impeller in the pump on my Yanmar 1GM had worn the cover and cam enough that it would no longer pull water from a bucket below the level of the pump (I flush the engine with fresh water at shutdown.) Replac...
