Re: Boat names
I had to settle for my second choice.... My Commodore didn't think my first choice was a good one.... I do agree that you should think about how it sounds over the VHF.... My first choice was going to be S/V Rosie Palm...... But this is what we settled on. You can see the possibilities for naming th...

Re: Open source NMEA to WiFi gateway - Kickstart campaign
Jim , Roberto, et al... The 740,741 are Garmin chart plotters. The SD card is that dinky little memory card like thing on your digital camera or some smart phone about the size of your little finger nail. The GMI 10 is the display usually at the helm for wind, depth, course etc.... and these are all...

Re: Tides marine Strongtrack
I posted some of my pictures of this install on the other board "Projects".. http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33648 This set up is awesome.... The main comes down like it's got a motor pulling it down!.... Goes up all the way and I only need to winch up the last foot. ...

Re: Open source NMEA to WiFi gateway - Kickstart campaign
John... and others.. It is not just about wireless. Please take a look at the short video. It more about allowing open source solutions into a now closed environment. This is how we, the boating community can now start reaping the benefits of tons of apps for smart phones and tablets. "Connecte...

John , Correct. But you need 741 not the 740. 741 has wireless.

Re: Open source NMEA to WiFi gateway - Kickstart campaign
I have been thinking about the $600 dollar option when I go to Florida.... This newer solution should be a good, much less expensive solution.. Been tracking this as well.... My motivation is to be able to do voyage planning below and move data to the cockpit chart plotter more seamlessly. I already...

Re: "New Boom" single line reefing
Jim, When I go up to the boat this Wednesday I will take some better profile pictures and post. This picture also shows another modification I made the first year I had the boat. I had both Halyards taken inside or internal in the mast... This gave me the option of adding two additional halyards bec...

Re: "New Boom" single line reefing
The short track next to the companionway is an artifact of the old "In Boom" main furling system that had been de-installed years ago by a previous owner. It on the short list to be removed this winter.
Here are some pics of the old boom...

Re: "New Boom" single line reefing
Dave,... Great comment on the main.... The rigger and I (excellent rigger), discussed this issue specifically. What he recommend and we installed was a new track inside the old track with stainless cars on the main... Even with the new resistance of the added blocks the main goes all the way up by &...

Re: "New Boom" single line reefing
I will reply fully when back home. With better pictures to include the new track and cars. The main drops like I have an electric motor pulling it down. I did the main mast internal line arrangement the first year I got the boat... Will send pics of that as well. Thanks for the comments.

Re: Broken Throtle Cable Ruins Beautiful Day
Thanks Bill and understand, you are spot on.... Of note, if anyone wants to know the anatomy of the Edson Pedestal cable replacement I am, unfortunately an unwilling expert.... I also know the insulation factor the a fiberglass hull in the engine compartment of a Cape Dory... Did you know if you spe...
