Re: Cracks!?!?

Greg, That's a heck of a commute to go sailing. Although my youngest daughter just honeymooned up in Maine and loved it! You didn't mention which model CD this is. If it is a 28 I'm familiar with the problem. My 25 and my 28 both had the same issue. Cape Dory built the hull and left a void space whe...

Cape Dory 30 for sale. Fresh water boat needs a good home.

I’m reposting this message for good friends of mine. They are the owner’s of a bed and breakfast in northern Michigan. Operating a B&B does not leave much time for sailing and their boat has been getting minimal useage for several years now. Boat info and some photos are listed below and if you ...

Re: Haul out & proper sling placement

I have routinely lifted my CD28 with the strap aft of the rudder on the hull. These things are overbuilt and I have seen no issues at all from that lift. I have also lifted from under the keel forward of the rudder. Different derrick operators like different ways. Of course your mileage may vary. :D

Re: I'm Baaaack!

Welcome back. As you have probably seen, your name and your boat have been mentioned in your absence. Take comfort in the fact that Pearl will always love you. It's a great restoration and you'll have great times sailing soon. Hang in there. Maybe you can find someone who wants to learn how to sail ...

Re: Questions regarding the Cape Dory 25

Will, If you can post the hull number that will help us as well. I had a 25 for 20 years and am familiar with them like many other members of this board. If it is a 78 it should have a bridge deck. That means there is a seat running across the companionway. That makes for a stronger boat. Check the ...

Re: New Cape Dory 28 Owner - Many questions

Adam, Yes Door County is great! I've been honeymooning there in June for 37 years. :D It is an amazing cruising ground and I'm surprise it isn't more crowded. Did you ever sail up to Fayette in the UP? My favorite place on the lake. Is your Dad still up there? I had friends that had a dodger with a ...

Re: New Cape Dory 28 Owner - Many questions

Adam, My CD 28 is a 1983 model. #341. What hull number is yours? I use hank on sails. In winds above 8 to 10 up to about 18 maybe 20, I use the full main and the working jib on the club foot. In light air I hank on a 150 to the headstay and leave the working jib furled on the boom. If the wind pipes...

Re: Repair Inflatable Dinghy

If it's a slow leak, it's a small leak. The number one tried and true tested method to find a slow leak is a mixture of soapy water applied with a paint brush. Cover the boat (starting with seams, fittings, etc. and if needed cover the entire fabric) with the soapy mix until you see bubbles expandin...

Re: vhf antenna

I have had a Metz unit on both of my CD's. The current one has been on for many years. Always have had good luck. I get reception from greater distances than many others at my location. I would go heavier with the cable. The 58 is too light. I would go with the 8 mini, some call it 8-X I think. You ...

Re: CD25 weather helm ALWAYS

I sailed a CD25 for 20 years. I had the same problem. I made a large difference by having the headstay shortened. Sight up the mast from abeam of the boat. If it is raked aft you may want to adjust it to be more upright. I had enough adjustment in the backstay to shorten the headstay by several inch...

Kevin,

Did you learn anymore about what happened aboard the boat? The red paint seemed very strange.
