Re: One Tough boat
This was in Hempstead Harbor NY. One harbor to the east of Manhasset Bay on the north shore of long Island. Hempstead Harbor does not have a natural hurricane hole. Instead they have a jetty that starts out from Seacliff and extends westward into to mouth of the bay. The problem with this time of ye...

I learn something new every time I read this forum.
I've never used PB Blaster. Always Liquid Wrench or WD 40.
PB Blaster sounds like great stuff.
Thanks

Re: Do you winterize your bilge if you can't get the water o
Still not a bad idea to put a gallon of the pink stuff full strength in the bilge even after emptying it, so any rainwater or meltwater that ends up in the bilge won't freeze up. I second Bill's advice. Whether I store her for the winter on the hard or in the water...I always make sure I use a few ...

Re: Evaluating spider cracks
Cape Dory's are famous for "spider web" cracks, or crazing in the gel-coat. This is because of an attempt to over build CD's, and in most cases the gel-coat was thicker than you would find on newer fiberglass boats. Fiberglass flexes. Thick Gel-coat not as much. So most of the crazing is c...

Re: batteries and solar setup for 24v outboard
That is an awfully big and heavy set up for a typhoon. Typhoon Senior--significantly bigger than a Typhoon. It could be as small as 2 additional batteries, maybe 100-150 lbs. or so total. The motor itself is comparable in weight to the Yamaha F4 that's in there now. What didn't you like about the T...

Re: New Typhoon Owner! And, Project List!
I have things on my "to do list" that are 20 years overdue. The number one thing on everyone's "to do list" in my opinion is GO SAILING! It's a boat. Use it. A lot. As often as possible. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy maintaining my CD. I take great pride in it. Some of my most memo...

Re: batteries and solar setup for 24v outboard
I'm starting to make plans and budget for an electric outboard to replace my 4-stroke. The motor I'm looking at, Elco Ep-5, is 24v. Ideally, I'd like to have an electrical system aboard that doesn't require shore power to recharge. Since it's a small boat, I'm thinking of putting in just a pair of ...

Re: Powering the CD25
I've posted this before. I'll add that when I traded my Johnson 9.9 Sailmaster for the 4 stroke 4HP and 6HP, that I cut a 1" in the Transom board to lower the outboard. This enabled me to close the Lazarette cover. [You can see the notch in the video] I sail to and from a mooring. Not from a do...

Re: Visiting Cape Cod June 5-7 to look at CD 26
So yes… You know the expected thing is you will find a squishy fore deck due to water intrusion into the balsa core. It usually enters through the anchor chain “through the deck”. It is inevitable, but make sure it’s not excessive. Especially under the bow cleat. Next, Since the CD26 has a deck step...
