Re: Looking for good rowing skiff for dinghy
I completely agree with Jim - Puffins are great! Bouyant, rugged, positive flotation, and ours has a rubber or somewhat soft built-in rub rail with an embedded rope - great detail, which prevents scuffing when the dinghy bumps up against the hull. It tows very well to, no hunting. We hae had ours fo...

Re: Typhoon outboard motor
Hi, I had a Mariner 4HP long shaft. Very reliable, even though it was a 2-stroke, long shaft, and it had forward and reverse gears -- definitely check, because reverse is useful docking and leaving a dock, and some outboards (I believe Tohatsu) don't have them. Also, as pointed out earlier, definite...

Hi, Nancy,
Don't know whether you saw my reply to you. I'm not listed anywhere but on the CD board, so there may be some mistaken identity. Let me know if you are still in VT!

Darn, I didn't know about this -- we might have been able to float in ourselves! Planning one for next year?

Re: Winter storage in NH for Typhoon
Hi, Julie, I don't have pictures available. I will describe what I did but if I were to do it again, I would copy Ariasis, but use a heavier tarp. His crutches seem easier and sturdier than my solution! I built 3 vertical supports from 2x4's and place one just forward of the center bow cleat, just f...

Typhoon Weekender for sale
Hi, all, I'm selling my Ty and moving on up into a Ty Senior. I'm asking $5,500 for the Ty, 1980, Ty #1,765. She's totally sound, in good shape, with a few non-worrisome spider cracks in the top side gel coat. Brightwork in B++ to A- condition. The main is maybe 8 years old and in good shape; the wo...

Re: Winter storage in NH for Typhoon
Hi, Julie, The first winter i had my Ty, I put a fairly light brace from the cockpit to the stern and threw a tarp over it. The weight of the snow and freeze/thaws bowed the support and I ended up with big chunks of ice and snow on top of the tarp, which had settled into the cockpit. The next year I...

Re: Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender sailing question
Hi, Do others find the stern low and prone to water coming in from wakes and a following sea. I do a lot of power boating and this is my first sailboat in the ocean. So, I'm a little green at this. john Hi, I have never had that happen, but I typically sail on Lake Champlain and we usually don't ge...

Re: Typhoon sail control
You may not have any reef points in your main sail but your boat should be equipped with roller reefing on the main from the factory. No need to mess around with reef ties in the sail. The roller reefing on my boom just doesn't work that well: the main sail pushes the boom far enough off of the cam...

Re: Stepping masts - Typhoon
I've done it myself, not easy but doable if you have some upper body strength. with the mast on the boat top facing aft get all the stays except the forestay hooked up. Hook a 6 foot or so section of rope from the bow plate to the jib halyard. Have a ladder about 6 feet in back of the boat higher t...
