Flywheel Puller Volvo MD2B part # 884078
Does anyone have any tips for finding a 4-bolt flywheel puller that will fit with a 1975 Volvo Penta MD2B? This is on my CD 28. The Volvo Penta puller part number is 884078, but it is no longer manufactured. The bolt holes are in a 6x6 cm square, or 8.5 cm on the diagonal diameter. Where does one fi...

Re: Chipped Cam Shaft end -- slot for oil pump key Volvo MD2
Thanks, Jean-- I did find it odd that there was enough of that circular space to allow the rectangular key on the pump to insert jammed up. My fault for not inspecting more thoroughly, of course. I will proceed as you suggest. Now to try to get the flywheel off... ~Robert Robert, I think the best yo...

Chipped Cam Shaft end -- slot for oil pump key Volvo MD2B
Well, I've done it now. Had to prime the oil pump on my MD2B and, working blind behind the flywheel, apparently reattached it with the key misaligned to the female end on the engine that turns it. I'm assuming this is the end of the cam shaft? As soon as I turned the key, I knew there was a problem ...

Re: MD2B Oil Pump / No Oil Pressure
Thanks, Everyone, for your help. Issue resolved: I removed the fuel pump (without removing the fly wheel) and primed it. I was sure I'd spilled too much out to be effective, but the pressure returned! Light came back in after a day's passage and then a night passing-- on morning start up. I had mana...

Re: MD2B Oil Pump / No Oil Pressure
Thanks, Jean. (I'm wondering if anyone out there has ever primed their oil pump through a small hole in its side?) It's just a sensor with a warning light-- no gauge-- and I put a new sensor in. So I feel confident the pressure is low (though I will see if I can find an actual gauge that might fit t...

Re: Engine trouble - Anyone use Johanson Boat Works in Rockl
Hi-- Coming late to this thread, but I can recommend Johanson very highly. They did the repair on our CD 28 (deck and rigging) after the marina in Camden lost a boat off a mooring a few years back and it came down on us (note: the marina has new owners now!). Johanson was a joy to deal with and did ...

MD2B Oil Pump / No Oil Pressure
Hi, Everyone-- I got the MD2B started up on my CD28 this spring, and the oil pressure warning light is staying on. (I changed the oil last thing in the fall.) I've checked the dipstick and strainer seals and replaced the sensor-- but light still on. There is a pretty good discussion of the matching ...

Re: Raw Water Heat Exchanger replacement CD28?
Found it! Thanks so much, everyone. It's an interesting tale: We started overheating... Removed thermostat -- still overheating. Exchange cleaned and small outer crack repaired -- still overheating. Slight wear on raw water impeller, also some upstream blockage-- replaced and resolved-- still overhe...

Re: Raw Water Heat Exchanger replacement CD28?
Thanks for these replies. The exchanger was cleaned and a small exterior crack fixed. I have established that all hoses are clear and impeller good. The raw water is flowing well, and is not over hot leaving exchanger or leaving exhaust out the boat. In fact, it is suspiciously not very warm. There ...

Raw Water Heat Exchanger replacement CD28?
Looks like I may have to replace my raw water heat exchanger for my CD28, which is currently in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She was overheating in transit. The HX is at a radiator shop today, but I'm not hopeful. Any suggestions for suppliers or manufacturers? This HX was strapped to the starboard side ...

CD 28 bottom wetted surface - barrier coat / bottom paint
Hi- I've seen various questions around on the list about wetted surface and barrier coat coverage, so I thought I'd post the numbers I got from Interlux. Best, Robert CD 28 Spondee (hull 57) Camden, Maine +++ I have estimated your wetted surface area at 215 square feet. As such, you will require rou...

Re: CD 28 water in keel?
Just an update to let everyone know that the diesel (photo attached) ended up running wonderfully and the survey was good, so I am the proud owner of CD 28 hull #57, which has been previously named Sea Pearl and Looney Tunes and has, it seems, spent most her life in Maine. I have a feeling that spri...

Re: CD 28 water in keel?
Thank you all for the replies! I found the perfect solution for that keel moisture: actually found a different CD 28, one that has been out of the water for ten years. I'm closing in on the deal, and my first order of business will be to get a barrier coat on. Along the way, I will certainly be curi...

CD 28 water in keel?
Hi, Everyone- With the kids getting bigger, I am looking to trade from my much beloved Typhoon (#465) to a CD 28. I'm looking at a 1976 boat that has been out of the water for 2 years, and there are pinhole leaks of water in a couple of places at the bottom of the keel. There are no visible bubbling...
