1981 CD 25 for sale, Keyport, NJ
Called " The perfect pocket cruiser" in July,2013 "Sailing" magazine. I call it an awesome daysailer. "Omega" is solid, rugged, and easy to sail. Her forgiving nature makes her ideal for a new sailor. She's comfortable with a jib and racey with a Genny(see video). Boat ...

Re: Downsizing 1978 30K - Looking for smaller options
I'm confused. Are you still in Jersey or have you moved south? I'm interested in your 30K and have a 1981 cd25 (not a D) She's fun and easy to sail and comes with a sturdy tandem axle trailer. She's on mooring in Keyport harbor and will be pulled in a week or so. Send me a private if your are intere...

Re: CD25 weather helm ALWAYS
Thank you all for the comments and insights. I see that many agree that it is an issue with the 25. I guess I just shouldn't expect to have a light tiller in the 12-18 range with a full main and genny I guess I'll try a reef and see how it goes. Thanks again.

CD25 weather helm ALWAYS
I believe the CD25 just has a lot of weather helm designed into it. I have tried everything I know to reduce it: main sheet to leward, main as flat as I can get it, genoa block far aft on the track and genoa cranked in. Nothing seems to make much difference. When a big puff comes along, I need to pu...

Re: Sandy's Victims
My CD 25,"Omega", rode it out on mooring in Keyport harbor. Just had her pulled out today with no damage. I guess a Cape Dory is better off in the water than out, no matter what the conditions are. I am sorry for your loss.

Re: CD 25 outboard well- problems? seaworthy?
I have a CD 25 and it is extremely seaworthy. I have sailed her in pretty rough conditions. I couldn't get her out of Keyport harbor on the Raritan Bay before Sandy hit. Five of us stayed on mooring while everyone else scrambled out to the boatyards. The result? My boat suffered no damage while virt...

Re: Farewell Bob Vander Wiede
I met Bob and his lovely wife only two times: the day I drove to Connecticut to buy "Omega" and the day they towed her down to me in Jersey in 2010. They were very pleasant and friendly,as well as fair dealing. I sailed the boat more than forty times last season. "Omega" is my fi...

Re: Looking for CD 25 Headsails
I have a spinnaker in my attic. I'm sure I will never use it. I don't think it was ever used much. Shoot me a reasonable offer...or would trade for a storm jib.

cd25
I'm a CD25 owner and a new sailor. I know nothing about the CD22. I put her in on May 27 and have sailed her thirteen times since then. My boat loves the wind and I love the boat. On my third trip out, I had 18 to 20 knots with higher gusts. With the main (not reefed) and working jib up, she easily ...

auto vs. windvane
OK. First of all, I'm a new sailor. My cd25 was dropped in on May 27 and I've had her out ten times so far, so I just getting the hang of this. I don't have auto or wind vane, but here is what I think anyway. A sailboat sails the wind. The wind may or may not take you directly where you want to go. ...

Drum
I'm remembering when I did mine. There was a white plastic key that is flush with the black drum. It looks like it is molded in but comes right out. Then you can properly clean and re-grease everything.

Ty rescue
I don't know much about Tys but I gather that they are very popular. I know that a really bristol one is probably worth more than my '81 CD 25. I just noticed a Ty in the boatyard I row out from. She is languishing on the hard and beginning to suffer from neglect, but she looks like loving hands cou...

No direct experience with the 4 cycle. I have a 2005 Yamaha 8 hp 2 cycle on my '81. It goes in OK, but no room to pivot for steering. I know the 4 cycles are bigger, so it sounds like a very tight fit. The Tohatsus look like the easiest to fit. I wouldn't worry too much about reputable dealers. A ne...
