Re: anchor windlass
Rorik, I am interested if you have an anchor windless on your C/D 28? What kind and how much chain are you lifting? I carry 110 feet hi test chain 1/4" and am wondering if its worth the expense of a windless. I was thinking about a Manual S/L 510 used if I could find one, Paul marko C/D 28 ixcatl

Re: Chart Plotter for C/D 28
Thanks for all your opinions about chart plotters for an old C/D 28 owner. I have one more question, do those of you that use a laptop or tablet computers find them adequate in direct sunlight or do the dedicated plotters "Garimin S.Horizon, etc have an advantage? Thanks again for your comments ...

Chart Plotter for C/D 28
I probably should not admit, for last 40-50 years I have relied on paper charts and don't own a chart plotter. I figure now is the time to learn new ways, so I would like the boards advice and or experience with the most cost effective portable chart plotter that can be used in the cockpit and cabin...

Re: porthole cleaning?
The way we cleaned bronze, copper, sliver ,and pewter in Morrocco. was to slice a lemon dip it in salt and rub the lemon on the article to be polished, then clean and polish with a piece of cotton or wool cloth. If you have an excess of lemons and salt the sysem works great. just my two cents worth ...

Re: Hi there. I'm fixing up a 1975 Cape Dory 28
This is Paul marko again/cd/28, about wind vanes: I have a Navick and it works well , I know of two other cd/28's that have them. Navick is no longer made but service parts are available at Plastimo USA located in Sarasota fl. The lower unit is poorly built and requies some reinforcement but is easl...

Re: Hi there. I'm fixing up a 1975 Cape Dory 28
Congrats on your choice of boats,I bought my cd/28 new in 1977 and have learned a lot about how boats are made. Chain plates: after about 2 years I began to see their limitations and made some modifications that included sealing, painting to keep from rusting. The bow plate has to be peened and paint...

I have sailed it on the West Coast of California,Chesapeake bay, lake Champlain and am currently sailing the golf Mexico from Placida Florida. Same motor and drive train , second set of hank on sails. I guess I just don't like...

Reef hooks.
I have 3 reef pts. on my main. Through each each clew I have nylon webbing with a D ring sown on either side of the sail. There is enough lenth of webbing to allow attachment to an open hook either side of the goose neck. I release the main halyard a measured amount and hook the D ring on to the hoo...

Shifting lever Farymann diesel
I have a 1977 c/d 28 which I bought new in 77. The Shifting lever and throttle advance are a Morse unit with the shifting lever to the inside . It has been less than Ideal ,when I shift into forward it increases the throttle. I have learned to live with this feature. What has improved the shifting l...

vang on jib boom c/d 28
One of the best improvements made on my c/d 28 self tending jibboom was installing a 3 ft. traveler track. This allowed sheeting the jib near the center line of the boat giving me a very effective sail shape. I was able to point higher and improved boat speed. I sail single handed most of time so I ...

Two books I have liked are: N by E Rockwell Kent les vagabondes des mers de sud by Bernard Moitessier ( I speak and read French ,not good at spelling or writing) Moitessier does a lot of running up on reefs while thinking about old gril frends, this makes his pasages quite excitng. best of the new y...

Farymann diesel not developing full power
Hi!, I have a farymann 30A on my cd 28 /1977. Its performed well over the years. I replaced a piston and valves about 14 yrs ago so its been dependable. In calm waters it will push the cd28 at 5kts 24/7 using 3/4 throttle. If I push to full throttle , it just smokes a lot and doesn't really go that ...

Tiller pilot for my CD 28
Hello, here is my 2 cents worth for the Simrad TP 20. I have owned it for about 7 years and have had no problems with it, I especially like the remote key pad which I some times use while on the foredeck. since I mostly sail single handed I rely on the TP 20 while I set sail and Motor. However when ...
