We’re back

My wife and I have had several Cape Dory’s in the past but went a spell without. We are glad to be the new owners of a Typhoon weekender. We look forward to being a part of the group again.

Re: My CD31 is for sale

Obviously still not smart enough. Photobuckrt would not let me shrink the pics down to 650 only 65 which made them tiny. Email me at captainkevin@yachtboy.net and I will be more than glad to send you some. Feel free to call me at 254.595.0022

My CD31 is for sale

1985 Cape Dory CD31. I am selling my CD31 cutter sailboat. I have this boat set up for blue water sailing and nothing but the best has gone in to it. I have sailed this boat many miles including single handed gulf passages and motoring most of the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway. Some of the gear include...

Re: cd 31 macerator pump

I think the option was a hand pump mounted in the port sail locker. I installed a macerator to the underside of the salon floor below the steps. I plumbers the suction side into the pump out hose and the discharge into the existing overboard discharge hose. I added a y valve isolate different functi...

binnacle base rotting

Has anyone had problems with the bases to their binnacle rotting? Both my CD31 and a friends at the same marina have this problem. The cast aluminum used for the base has got to be towards the bottom of the nobility scale so I wonder if anyone has changed their base out and if there is a better opti...

Re: Auto Pilots

I have a question. What is the process of ordering a tiller or bell crank that goes on the rudder shaft for the actuator to hook up? I had a machine shop make mine and I question it.

Re: Auto Pilots

I thought you would like to read that. I called ray marine before buying the SPX-10 and they said it would work.

Re: Cape Dory 31 cutter- comments on sailing performance

I love my CD31. I owned a CD30K for a short time and I am glad I had the chance to buy the 31. The CD31 has more water storage (about 80 gallons) keel stepped mast, aft head etc. I have single handed mine across the Gulf of Mexico a couple of times and find it to be an easy boat to handle. I have al...

Re: Auto Pilots

I just installed the X-10 with my Cetrek electric/hydraulic actuator. Had problems with the install, burned a connection in the computer and kept getting "current limit" reading. Raymarine fixed the connector and upgraded the software and now it seams to be working fine.

RF signal on backstay antenna.

What kind if pattern does the RF signal on a backstay put out. Is it like a dipole and the lobe is doughnut shape? If so then lobe facing the boat must bury it self into the water. Also if that is the case would turning the boat around to have the stern face the direction you want to xmit help? I kn...

Re: Video from my last crossing

I would have to think that the paint and the pfd were someone’s Idea of how to mark the boat either to draw attention or for a future attempt to salvage it. Everyone asks, why did I not salvage the boat. I don’t know that Neptune wanted me to help myself to someone else’s misery. Second I looked at ...
